Guess Why I'm Not at School

So, maybe you're all wondering why I'm making a topic during regular school hours where I am. Well, I'm not in school. I'm at home, typing on a computer. All of us got dismissed from school early, except it wasn't because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. It was all because of a bomb threat.

Our school has recieved TWO threats already. All of a sudden, this year, we have been getting bomb threats. The middle school has recieved at least one, already.

So, has this sort of thing happened to the schools you go to? I'm just wondering, because the town I live in is very safe, and all of a sudden, bomb threats pop up. Discuss.

    RE: Guess Why I

When I was in highschool there were five or six threats a year, beginning my freshman year. I guess they're still going on, but please. I went to a 1-A, Student population K-12 of about 800, teeny tiny backwoods school. I'm glad they took the threats seriously, but it got pretty ridiculous.

      RE: Guess Why I

Last year, there was a Friday where 75% of the school didn't show up because there was some dumbass rumor going around about how "terrorists were going to blow up the school."

      Give me a break.

        RE: Guess Why I

Tenafly is a very safe town to live in. I've never seen a serious crime take place anywhere within the place, especially when people will take things VERY seriously now.

A few of us thought that the sender of the threat wanted the school to close. Not long before today, a school in Tappan closed because of a bomb threat for a week.
Link for an article that describes what happened at Northern Valley High: http://1010wins.com/topstories/local...325074413.html

And this bomb scare at my school was not a rumor. The school recieved a threat, albeit I heard that the staff recieved the threat much earlier in the day.

But, anyway. Anybody wonder why these threats are sent when you're in school? There are plenty of reasons aside from the threat sender not wanting to go to school. It could be an annoyed student, a coward who didn't study the night before and wanted to avoid taking it, etc.

          RE: Guess Why I

This happened at my school last week, on monday/tuesday. Like moogy said, 90% of our school students showed up, but left early as the rumors spread. They spread on the weekend prior, but not everyone was aware of it. As the whole student body heard about it, they all started to leave before the first period bell even rang. 400 students out of 4000 remained at the school, about 90% left, all cause of a bomb/gun threat written on the wall the week before. Lol. free day off All absences were excused.

Dude same exact thing happened to us last year and a couple years ago

            There was a bomb threat

I live in a VERY small town with a small school (though its growing, about 600 now). It's generally very safe too. Weird isn't it o_O.

My friend made a bomb threat in his high school as a joke. He got into the sys admin's login and changed all the computers in the school to a black screen with green numbers counting down to 0 from 2 hours. The top said "bomb threat." He got a huge laugh out of it, but didn't think anyone would take it seriously. Then he got expelled =/

My brother-in-law made a bomb thread back when he was in high school (Arkansas in the late eighties/early nineties) to avoid taking a test, but nobody bought it.

"Ok school is going to end at 1:30 today due to a bomb threat"

                    Everyone was jumping from joy.

                      RE: Guess Why I

WTF. My grade school and middle school years, we never had ANY kind of threats. And that was in a religious Jewish school, during a time that there was unhappiness about Jewish people. (Actually, there may have been one threat--but it didn't get around to the students until way after it happened, and we didn't get to miss any school.) My high school never had any bomb threats. Why are you guys so lucky?

Besides, at Temple...if they DID get a bomb threat they'd probably make us go to classes anyway. If they're open when there's 14 inches of snow on the ground and every single other school is closed, a lousy bomb threat isn't going to get them to shut the doors.

Er, when I was a freshman my school flooded, and we got to go home like 20 minutes after school started. Then when I was a Junior some guy got arrested for driving onto campus without a permit and they found like 4 shotguns and a Samurai sword in his car... but we didn't get to leave.

I guess some of you were in HS during 9/11, but I doubt ANY of you were in HS during the Columbine activities or other school shooting sprees... as I was a freshman.

Point being, that year just about every school in the COUNTRY had some form of "serious" bomb threat. Our school had a few... I made sure to milk them into not going to class, but never believed them.

This is nothing new kiddies... and frankly, not newsworthy.... although it SHOULD be. That is the reality of our school systems over the past 10 years or so.

4000 students? Jesus Christ, that must be hell. My last school had 2500, and even that was totally insane.

My school has never had anything happen to it. The worst thing that ever happened in the elementary was that a tornado destroyed the playground. In the middle school some kid brought like 4 knives and threatened the principal. And in the highschool, some girl overdosed on cocaine in the bathroom. Nothing as serious as a bomb threat though.
