    Computer Wont recognize Blank Dvd's

Apparently my compute has told itself to read blank dvd's wrong, becuase when I put one in the drive name changes from CD/DVD-W to CD Drive.
It will play dvds, just not read the blank ones.

I have uninstalled everything new that might have cause this problem and got nothing. I have checked online, but the only answer I can find is from the microsoft help and support center. But that really doesn't apply here because I have neither Roxio or that other program installed or ever have been installed on my system.

When I right click the drive and click the tab hardware, it brings up a list of all my drives, with correct names, I click on the DVD burner(TSSTcorp CD/DVD-W TS-H552U) and it says it is working perfectly.

Short of a reformat, what can I do to remedy this problem.

BTW, I tried dissabling it and re-enabling it.

My DVD drive did something similar. It would read ONLY CDs at first, then neither DVDs or CDs.

Reformatting won't do much, I think. It is likely a faulty drive. In the end, I had my drive replaced.

My computer does the same thing. Your burning software should work just fine. I used and still use Sonic RecordNow!, but when this first happened, it didn't recognize my CD/RW drive. I downloaded a patch and it worked just fine. I know, it's annoying, and I found it annoying too, but eventually you learn to ignore it, because it's an inconvenience, but not a real problem.

No, the programs wont work either. I mean I can't burn, it always gives an error. Like some stupid coded error, that really doesn't contain anywords so I can't figure out wtf is wrong.

Your drive/motherboard/drivers/whatever is busted. If I could have some hands-on work with it, I could probably figure it out, but I doubt I can help any more. If the computer is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer and DEMAND it be fixed.

well yes, I was going to do that, but I found out that I can Burn DVD's through other programs. It was just on thing I was trying to burn was currupt, and I was missinterpereting that with my dvd drive being broke.

Now I just have to figure out whats wrong from there.

Well, if other burning programs work, like I said, just try to ignore it and it'll be fine. I have had the exact same problem, and I usually have a knack for fixing problems (I run Operations at my school, which I earned in my knowledge for maintaining computers and fixing problems. I need to make sure every computer in the school is running the way it needs to at all times). But, after 10+ hours trying to figure this one out, including the installation of a new drive, I couldn't fix it. So, if the drive still reads and burns like you need it to, try to ignore it and it won't bother you.

Oh, and what programs were you using to burn, just out of curiosity?

Well, I have Nero, thats my major one. I also have DVD ghost, DVDFAB(Platinum and Gold), DVD Santa, and DVD Decrypter. Basically all of these programs except nero, were installed after this problem came up with burning these files. Maybe not Santa, but the others for sure.
