Hurricane Rita, Part 1: Before the Storm

This doesn't look real good. You guys and gals saw the storm, Katrina. My family is not taking any chances with the next one, Rita. I live in Houston, and everywhere there is traffic backed up dozens of miles. We're leavin' this place, so I won't be able to contact back to this topic for a while. By my estimates, I have less than 36 hours in my computer time before power goes out. I may leave after this, so wish me luck getting through the storm.

    Discuss the topic.

No. It doesn`t look good at all. I live in New Orleans and lost everything. I lost a good amount of friends from Katrina and I hate it. You people in Texas please look out. I have like 11 relatives in Houston right now who all evacuated there from Katrina and I`m not able to get in touch with them. So, all I can do is wish all you guys good luck.

i feel bad fer u [gender plz]. i got an update that the hurricane will move slightly east from houston, so better fer me. one thing i should note, after waiting hours and hours to evacuate, hundreds of cars r out of gas and r stuck on the freeway. this aint good. i should be here fer another day b4 i leave; we cant afford our car breaking down.

Yeah. It sucks. and what really sucks is that we are going to be hit a second time. but this time with the outter wall but it`s like on of the worst parts though too... I`m just like so happy to be living.. heh. but don`t worry, I know that you will get through it. shyeah, when we like evacuated like we had to wait in gas lines for hours.

RE: Hurricane Rita, Part 1: Before the Storm

Why did you make this a poll? I'm as concerned about hurricane Rita as the next guy, but was a poll necessary? You must have thought REALLY hard to even come up with a question. I mean, come on -- of course people see another Katrina-type storm. Even if the hurricane were weakening faster than it is, the aftermath of Katrina is going to influence people to panic about something small. Rita is by no means small -- Baylor has cancelled classes and is urging anyone who can leave to do so, and Waco is pretty far inland. Yes, this is huge. It's not really a "take-a-poll" type situation.

In related news, my mom has been signifigantly freaked out by Hurricane Katrina. She thought our house was far enough inland that nothing would happen, and then they were without power for four days and all these trees were knocked over and chaos ensued. So my mom's not fucking around this time -- she wants me to get the hell out of Waco, not assume that I'll be okay and just wait it out. I'm kind of agreeing with her. If not rain and flooding (I do live pretty close to the Brazos river, although I'm not too worried about that), I'm going to have to worry about rain, and if something like, you know, a tornado hits, I'm not scared of tornados, but I wouldn't have anywhere to take shelter in my apartment. Unfortunately, I'm a retail slave, and, according to my manager, no merchant in Waco would dream of closing up because of the probability of a storm, so no one would really understand that my mom insists I leave.

Yeah classes here at Baylor are cancelled and there are also talks of evacuating Baylor. It's so hard to believe that a city 200 miles inland has a chance of getting so badly affected by this hurricane that an evacuation is possible. I'm glad that classes are cancelled for obvious reasons but I will also be able to get back home to Dallas asap.

I made a poll to see if anyone disagrees with the... give me a moment. I'm getting dizzy in my head from the prepping up for the storm. I must've been in the sun too long cutting up branches. God... it's freakin' annoying!!!

                    *one minute later...*

That did happen. I'm tired and fatigued from moving branches and leaves to a place where they don't become missiles to my house. So, back to the topic...
I did the poll to see if anyone disagrees with me. Katrina was considered bad because New Orleans and vicinity got hit real bad. Plus, the levees broke. Double whammy there. I'm not as afraid in this situation, but still pretty worried. The difference between Katrina and Rita are the cities. New Orleans is below water. If you're there, you'd be looking at the river like this:
                    *
                    ********************************** _ _
                    *********************************/ Le*\Water Level
                    ********************************/vee
                    _______________________You_____/

In Houston, this is not the case.
It could be the aftermath of Katrina that scares people, but there are some who believe the situation is not like this. That's why I want to know the opinion of the storm, affected already or not.

Yeah. New Orleans is just a big bowl in lamer terms. In New Orleans all the important buildings are gone. Millions of dollars worth of destruction here. My dad`s government buildings are completely gone so yeah. Houston is pretty much gunna get that damage. Yeah. I dun know what to say.

I love how you included a poll. And to top it, a comedy option.

Rita's lookin' pretty well-formed right now. And it's also huge. Texas won't be Atlantis III like New Orleans became, though.
