In Florida, we are making a 115 achre outside mall that will cost over a billion dollars. We need this money for new orleans and mississippi and other states affected by katrina. And with this new system developing near us, we dont have money to waste on extra things. We need to help the people.

You know...just because thousands of people are without food and shelter, doesn't mean that the rest of the world has to stop functioning to help them out. Think of it this way: this shopping mall will probably bring business into the area, and thus Florida's economy will increase, so spending billions of dollars for something that will in time pay for itself and eventually make a profit seems like a grand idea. Now, Florida could instead donate the money to help the victims of hurricane Katrina, which could help a lot of people...but then no shopping mall will be built. And helping people doesnt bring food to the table. And besides, the effort to help hurricane Katrina is like...off the hook right now.

That and the fact that it is FLORIDA who is building it, a state that was not affected badly by Katrina. The fact that it is over a BILLION dollars... and, where does that cash come from? Oh yea... FLORIDA taxpayers. Jeb Bush is a fucktard, but he isn't dumb enough to fork over millions, let alone billions of Floridians hard earned tax bucks.

And you gotta figure, they didn't decide 10 days ago "Hey, there is a hurricane going on, LET'S BUILD A MALL!", these things take months, even years of planning, there are contracts, deadlines, ect. It just so happens that the opening of construction or whatever came at a bad time, as others have said, the world must go on even during disaster.
