Just because something is against the government doesn't automatically make it punk.

Current punk ringleader: After a period of being not-so-hip, Green Day's cool again, thanks to their very fine, spit-in-the-face-of-politics CD, American Idiot.
You sure about that? That guy says otherwise :O

As an emo/indie person, I must say, they have completely fucked this up.

        Let's start off with Emo.

Death Cab for Cutie sucks, and is a pathetic attempt at trying to sound emo. Bright Eyes is also one of the worst "emo" bands you will ever listen to. They COMPLETELY missed My Chemical Romance under Music. Very few Emos know how to play guitar, but instead, a synthesizer. Emos are NEVER EVER EVER EVER BAREFOOT, and DVS is a bad example of a sneaker, because then 1/4 of the people who skate would be emo. Who the fuck is Ross Peters anyway?

OH YEAH BY THE WAY DEATH CAB AND POSTAL SERVICE ARE THE SAME BAND YOU NAIVE ASSHOLES, THE POSTAL SERVICE WAS A PROJECT THAT DEATH CAB DID.

        Phew.

        Now onto indie.

Not so much on the collared shirt deal, but definitely long sleeves with a band name on it, and NO JACKET. Hair isn't usually short, it's usually longer than shoulder length. Shoes is semi-accurate, but a lot of indie guys like to skate to their indie music, so skate shoes come in as well. Once again, no idea who this Sufjan guy is, or who Maxwell Brown is. Pretty much nailed the music part of it, but a BIG band that they missed is Interpol, which is a must have as far as indie goes. As far as the iPod thing, most indies tend to avoid iPods and go for the Creative Nomad, since they like to shoot for cheaper and more durable.

Wrong, the Postal Service is the lead singer from Death Cab For Cutie and Jimmy Tamborello from Dntel (an IDM project). The song "(This is) the Dream of Evan & Chan" was the first Dntel song that featured that guy from DeathCab.

Synthesizers are Indie. Guitars are emo. At least that's how it is where I live. I play the synthesizer in a Indie band, go figure, and we suck, so that makes us even more Indie.

They did indeed miss Interpol (or as I like to call them, Inter-If-you've-heard-one-song-you've-heard-them-all-pol). They also missed the Unicorns, like the ultimate Indie band.

I didn't see the Unicorns so i was confused, about the whole indie thing.
I fit into everything other that "Screamo". That makes me happy.
But, since that makes me part emo, it really makes me fell sad
and makes me want to play bad guitar and write a song.

That article is the biggest load of crap I have ever seen.

First of all, those are all stereotypes.
Second of all, the "Emo" that they are talking about is what MTV has come to make you believe it is.

In reality, Emo originated from Metal. Metal was called Emo when it involved Minor chords giving it an emotional sense or feel.

And all those other categories are stupid off branches of your so called "Emo"

And punk shouldn't even be categorized with any of those others.

The funniest thing, I think, about this thread is how many of you have actually grouped yourselves into these categories, and how you can have such an in depth conversation on how the kind of music you listen to has any realtion to the type of clothes you wear.
