OK... weird story, with all the back ends of it... because its amusing.
Yesterday I had to leave work at 1pm because Whorli needed to ship her old bed (from the old house) back to California and the people we were using to ship it wouldn't pick it up from a house. So I left work early to help her move these 4 HUGE packages of wood + the mattress from our house to my fathers office. That was cool because any excuse to leave work early is good.
So, we get to my fathers office and load the stuff onto the truck, but because of the enormous size of the wood, we could only fit 3 of them in the car. So we had to go back and get the 4th.
While unloading the 1st load, some ugly middle aged woman pulls into the spot next to us in the parking lot of the medical complex where my fathers office is. No big deal, right? Nope... Handicap spot.
So, I wait for her to leave her car, making sure that she has no handicap placard to hang from her read-view mirror (and I could clearly tell that there wasn't one on her licence plate)... and call the local police department (who are stationed about .5 miles away). I reported it, her car, licenece plate, etc...
We come back with the last piece of wood. The truck driver comments "Man, the cops here don't mess around... they came and ticketed this car." I laughed, smiled, and replyed, "I called them."
The only thing better would have been if she was going to see my father. We stopped in his office after to say hello, and saw no sign of the woman. She must not have had skin problems.
Well, the other thing that could have been better was the fine. Apparently it is only a $10 fine for parking in a handicap spot in the town in which I grew up. Weak. Could have at least given her a $50 fine or something. Either way, its never a good feeling to come back to your car with a ticket on it. Perhaps she'll learn her lesson.
It pisses me off when people park in handicap spots. Not even because it takes parking away from old people, who likely need it... especially in a medical complex... but because they are trying to get away with something that I WANT to do, but won't, because $10 bucks is too much to pay for not having to walk as far. Damn them for thinking they can get away with being lazy and getting a close parking spot when I have to walk 100 feet further.
