AIM/MSN/Yahoo Virus - Don't be idiots

New virus is going around, i've personally had attempts come from my sister and some random person just now, so I'll tell you all about it.

W32.Velkbot.A is its name, and this is how it looks:

The actual link will be something that ends in picture.php, pictures.php, or something.com

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK, you will then be infected with the virus. This virus can steal your password, and execute other commands remotely via a IRC server.

Yeah, I got one of those. Fortunately, it was from a friend whom I didn't think would send me something like that (that is, an IM that read what it did including a hyperlink). I didn't click it, but my suitemate did because he's a dumbass.

So if you just click on the link it infects you? Because when he did it it came up with a menu that said "save to disk" or cancel. He cancelled, so I don't know if he got it or not.

This has been going around for about a week now.

weird, I got one almost exactly like that, except on MSN. and it was the one time that i clicked it, because it was coming from someone who usually doesn't send my anything unless its really hillarious because they know it annoys me. So i clicked it. and poof! i was toast. this happened about a month and a half ago though...so it's probably different.

Haven't gotten anything, probably because I was away. I got a thing when I first got this laptop but it was in an away message. Took me FOREVER to get rid of it. Luckily with my skills and the help of my cousin, I was able to free my computer of it.

I had my friend change his password the other day because of it, stupid virus tried to send me the same thing for 2-3 straight.

Man my msn gets hit by that all the time.
This really popular kid got it, and sent it to me, I didn't open it, but literally 30 seconds later about 5 people sent the same thing to me.
Apparently, its a html that opens a .exe.

I got it from axlecrusher on SMO. With him being a programmer and all, I didn't know. Luckily, I had just ran a spybot test that day which creates a system restore point, so I was saved.

I still have the file if anyone has the need to check it out. All it did to me was make it impossible for me to open task manager.

I got the same thing, only mine was called funnyhits, it didn't seem to do anything to me though. I also still have the file.

yup. thats the exact one i got. clicked link (very stupid of me) but i did it very suspiciously, hence not saving to disk. not sure if i still got virus, but I like to be sure of things...got it twice from the same person. they have in their profile it was a virus, just read it a while ago (after i clicked the link). BTW i never heard of the person's sn, another reason that i was such a dumb idiot for clicking.
