    Day of Faith

These next few days hold rather strong signifigance for many of us and I thought it might be good to start a thread for anyone who needs to get out thoughts on any of the tragedies we will be remembering today and tomorrow, or at least to remind people of their occurrences -- Waco, Oklahoma City, Columbine. These were events that rocked most of us. Being a fifth grader in Tulsa, OK on April 19, 1995, I can remember that the state pretty well shut down. I used to live in a house pretty close to downtown OKC.

=) This is just my way of coping with something that didn't REALLY affect me, but did affect me, you know? I haven't really realized the impact until recently.

So this is for anyone who has thoughts, memories, whatever. Have a great week, FFR. Don't forget how important each day is to you.

Well, i'm going to ask each one of you a favor... (Hehe Panda)

Today when you go to a public place.. Anywhere! Smile to the people you see.. You would make a difference by that.

    And just one more thing...

    YOU ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL!

I look forward to this day because it usually means we get a bomb threat, so I can basically have an all day recess. Fun stuff.

Panda explained it. Use google... If you don't know what she is talking about, you're too young to remember, making you about 10-12.

The Branch Davidian standoff certainly had a great impact on my life, and to think it was twelve whole years ago is rather strange to me.

During the longest standoff in American history I was in second grade. It just so happened that my teacher's husband was in the ATF and at Mt. Carmel every day. Because of this, our entire class got to watch a short (five minite or so) news segment on TV every day for a little update. I liked it because it was in the middle of TPIR, so we got to watch a little bit of that every day, but my teacher watched for other obvious reasons.

Turning it on the 19th shocked everyone to see the compound burning to the ground.

It was that day that started my first exposure to the world of politics. Scandalous behavior went all the way to the Presidency and my town was now infamous (seriously, I've played games with German people who know what Waco is).

I didn't have any personal connection to any of the Branch Davidians like so many more did to victims of the OKC bombing, but it was still quite the experience for me. It's sad to see kids growing up these days who weren't even alive to experience it. Twelve years.

Regarding OKC, that was also quite the significant event, although I wasn't directly affected at all. I was nine at this time, so I understood a bit more, enough to detest Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols for doing such a horrible thing in the name of anti-government ideals. The death penalty was merciful...

            Edit: just a note.
Waco (4/19/93): A religious sect following a man named David Koresh (whom they believed to be the messiah) holed up in a compound at Mt. Carmel and decided they would defend their religion with assault rifles. There was a forty-something-day-long standoff with the ATF that ended with the compound burning to the ground, killing many of the Davidians.

OKC (4/19/95): Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols blew up the Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City as a protest against governmental raids in Waco, Idaho, Ruby Ridge, etc. 168 people were killed. Nichols got a life sentence and McVeigh the death penalty.

Littleton, CO (4/20/99): Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold enter their high school and start a shooting rampage that left 13 dead and 24 injured. Not much is known for sure why they did it (social problems being the main proposition), but they ended the spree by taking their own lives.

                    4/20, National Pot Smoking day.

Having a party at my house, everyone who comes gets a complementary bag of pot.

Just kidding, that's the most retarded holiday. Ironic that it's on Hitler's birthday. Maybe the corrupt and evil mind of Hitler has something to do with marijuana.

But in Civics, I said "Happy Oklahoma City Bombimg Day" and got way more laughs than I should have.

Sorry Pander. But it's already hyped up around here considering my school is all on pot, probably more than most schools.
