    It's my birthday.

    It's unbelievable.

    It's finally happend.

    Squeek. Is. ONE.

Today is January 3rd, 2005. I joined the FFR Forums on January 3rd, 2004 with the following post:

It probably seems like a bit of work, but if you set a maximum value for every song (By using the standard score * 50 * 500 * 1000 system), couldn't you limit the maximum score to the...maximum score?

Sorry if this has been posted before. I'm a bit sick of knowing the top score with all perfects / combo and seeing people beyond it.

    ~Squeek
And it has been suggested hundreds of times since.

So, without further ado, I present you all with the official "Squeek is finally one year old" thread.

    I. Congratulations, you're cool in my book.
    II. A look back.
    III. The real-world Squeek.
IV. Super-secret surprise for all of you.

    Section I

This would be the place where I list the people that made an impact on my time here on FFR. This list is in the order that I think of the people and the ordeer does not reflect my opinion of you in the least.

Kefit - What ELSE could be said about Kefit that I've not already told him? He's taking much of the same courses I am with much better grades hundreds of miles away with a year on me. But that's really not his defining quality, no sir-ee. I like to refer to Kefit as the king of anime information. If I have trouble understanding something I'm currently watching, I turn to Kefit. If I'm bored and have no other anime to begin viewing, I turn to Kefit. If I hate Kefit's choices of anime, I yell at Kefit (hey, it's only happened once so far...). Thanks for being awesome.

Kilga - We don't talk much, but you're still awesome for much of the same reasons as Kefit is. You're the forum president and I'm glad I voted for you. Thanks for the awesome simfiles, congrats on all your insane one-handed accomplishments, and thank you for putting the occasional noob in his place.

Omeganitros - Omega was the first real acquaintance I had on FFR back in the month of June.
    Holy Shet.

Mr Squeek, despite your Trigun avatar, you are the now one of the coolest dudes on this board.
This after I posted a 5-page essay on the stupidity of DDRKing's claims in the topic "xbox or ps2???". Since then, we've been eye-to-eye on almost everything. I say almost because there is one defining difference between us. He already knows what it is. While Omega enjoys the occasional Star Wars flick, I abhor it. Oh well, we still have STWPT, right?

PS - Kuroneko has and always will pwn the world.

Brainmaster - I always thought of myself as an above-average video gamer. I really did. Had I not met Brainmaster, I might have always thought this way. Brainmaster basically came along and crushed all my records on every game I'd ever played. In Ikaruga, he manages to beat it on Hard LONG before I can. I believe he's even done it without a continue. He's almost 100% completed F-Zero GX, a game I don't even want to touch with a 40-foot pole anymore. He beats every game faster and more efficiently than I can, but I like this about him. It gives us a sort of unwritten and unannounced rivalry when a new game comes out to see who wins first and in the best way.

Reach - Thanks for being an awesome SM player that doesn't shun the rest of the world for sucking so much. Someday, you'll AAA blur and we'll all want to kill you. That, or AAAA some song on 2.0x rate. Either way, it'll be something hardly anybody else can do. I still love all your simfiles and the music that accompanies them. I don't know how you will do it, but I wish you luck in your quest to perfect your IIDX and SM skills.

Lightdarkness - Sorry to begin on a bad note in a congratulatory post, but honestly, you need to consult me or my grammar thread much more often than you do. Other than that, congratulations on rising the ranks in a week to become the head administrator on the site. I envy your PHP and PHPbb skills that I'll never have. You'll make a great programmer someday for some huge company and make millions.

GuidoHunter - My other grammar half. The one that knows far more than I ever will. Your critical thinking posts are a truly necessary addition to the section. I thank you for the contributions to our seemingly-dead grammar topic and hope you continue to strive toward sticklerhood.

The_Q - You were here hardly a week before you made an impact in the Critical Thinking section. I'm glad I noticed you then, because look at what you've become now. You stole the "Most Intelligent" poster award from me! No, I don't mind. You definitely deserve the award more than I do. I'm quite satisfied with knowing people actually consider me an intelligent poster. Keep up the good work in the CT forum.

Moogy - Where would ANYBODY be without Moogy? 7,000 posts and counting; at least 2,000 of those were in the Garbage Bin at one point. But everybody acknowledges the fact that you are the epitome of the TRUE FFR postwhore. Nobody can whore posts like you my friend. Aside from your amazing ability to increase post count, you have extensive video game and musical knowledge that you love to divulge and that I love to hear divulged. OGGs for lyfe brutha (or until a better one comes out).

Chardish - Remember the good ol' days? "Why isn't Chardish a mod yet? I don't understand!" Yea, those were the days. Apparently, asking this question really hit home in the staff forum and soon enough, you were a moderator. Was it because you are a WSC member? Was it because your avatar is an undiscernable feathered blue circle? I'd like to think it was neither. Obviously, the staff saw your ability to handle various situations with a strong sense of justice. Congratulations on your promotion and I hope to see you in the administrator seat soon enough.

Anticrombie - We all know that if you're wrong, or not right enough, Anti is there to fix it for you. Whether or not he does it with an insult or two...or a dozen... is totally up to whoever posted it. We all love you for this; even if we're on the receiving end of the comments. Keep up the good work. Nobody else is going to do it, and you're the only one who can do it so efficiently and with such style.

Jewpin - To sum up Jewpin is to sum up hilarity itself. Nobody really knows HOW he does it; he just does. You can just come into a thread 10 pages in with a simple one-line comment based on a quote and have every person that reads that line at least chuckle lightly to themselves. Plus, you offered the 3-page explanation to Evangelion to me when I was in "dire need" of it. You're definitely one of the coolest people I've ever "met".

And now comes the time when I no longer have a name to list. Have I forgotten you? Did you think you deserved my recognition? You might have. So many people here made an impact on my life that it's impossible to list them all and what they managed to do for me.

    Section II

Just HOW did I manage to find my way onto this site, anyway? I really don't know the answer to this question. I had hardly ever heard of DDR and whenever I did, I never really thought it would be fun or interesting in the least. A cousin of mine informed me that the song "Sandstorm" by Darude became very popular due to this game, and so I sought out to find music similar to this song I liked. While searching for DDR (something) in Google on my crummy 56k modem, I stumble across the website "Flash Flash Revolution." Having a modem too slow to play the game, I ditch the idea of ever being a part of this site.

That was probably summer of 2003.

Come Thanksgiving of the same year, our house FINALLY has a cable line hooked up to it and we are able to get cable internet. After going on a huge downloading spree within the first few days, I soon become bored and try to think of fun things to do to waste time. I recall a website that had the ability to play a DDR-type game and try to locate it again. After a few attempts, I find it again and start playing.

Needless to say, I failed on Trip to the Moon. There's a certain mindset that you have to develop to play this game and I just didn't develop it very fast.

But the seed had been planted and the desire to improve at this game was strong. In fact, I got to the point where my life consisted of playing FFR whenever I had the opportunity; whether it be at home or at school. Seeing as I was an assistant server administrator at my school, this wasn't hard to accomplish. I could easily unban the site if the county ever thought it wasn't school-related material and continue my fun.

Around March or April, someone in my CS class (of whom I had all gotten addicted to this game, but they have since all quit) informs me of this awesome game, "Stepmania". I never really did like it better than FFR, but the ability to play any song that you wanted was a huge bonus. Bemanistyle 5.5 was the site back in the day and making sims was my game. I had to be offsync by at least half a second with my first two simfiles, and things didn't get better with my official beginnings with BMS 6.0 with my 6:30 minute simfile.

I was still under the assumption that I was a really good Stepmania player. Keep in mind that I was one-handed at this point and had no idea what the Brag Board was. A 1,000 combo was HUGE for me, even though the simfile was <150bpm 8ths the entire time. For some reason, I always failed to notice the fact that all these supposedly "good" players were playing on Challenge while I was playing on Heavy and I assumed I was really good. Once I made the realization, you can assume how crappy I felt.

From this point on, my FFR / Stepmania playtime decreased and my forum participation really took off. I was suddenly being recognized for my awesome posts by several "high rollers" and gaining respect. I was glad I could fit in so well, but I was bothered by the fact that I wasn't the best at anything. Being the best at FFR or SM was dashed; being the best video gamer was taken by Brainmaster. You can't be better than perfect in grammar, and Guido had that slot long before I did. Come July, I finally have something.

    I had the best computer.

Though I could never prove it, nobody took the time to refute my claims. Anti was in disbelief that I could score a system like this one for such a low price. I was definitely on the top with this one. With the self-esteem boost from this knowledge, I pursue the plight of becoming the most well-known and well-respected poster by any means necessary.

And, since I'm writing this post right now, I'd like to think my plight is not meaningless.

Section PS - I've never played DDR. Ouch.

    Section III

No, reading this will STILL not give you any more information than you could glean from subliminal messages hidden within my posts. I'm still very much paranoid about giving away too much information about myself, but I can tell you all as much as I can.

Yes, it's true that I'm one of the eldest members of this site and one of the few in a college, though I cannot tell you which one. My half-birthday is in this month, so expect my 19th within 6 months.

I essentially blinded myself when I was 6 and have been forced to wear glasses ever since. Not just any glasses, either. I'm talking super-huge nerd glasses. If someone tells you not to look at the sun for too long, PLEASE listen to them.

As much as the stereotypes would imply from a person that spends at least 10 hours a day on the computer, I am not overweight and I am not perverted. In fact, I'm extremely agile (don't ask how...I've never worked out in any way) and have been able to do some pretty harsh things.

I've lived on a deserted island for a week.
I've hiked 70 miles in New Mexico with a 40-pound pack.
I've nearly fallen off a mountain to save a jar of peanut butter.
    I've camped in subzero temperature.

I am not a religious person, even though you could ask anyone in my family and they'd tell you otherwise. I renounced my religion a few years ago and adopted my own belief. I'm not an atheist or an agnostic. I'm a "non-religious individual" and I'm really proud to support scientific explanations of the universe.

Finally, the ultimate question everybody has. "Why do you like that Trigun cat so much?" I'll tell you why Timmy. That cat is the epitome of life itself. It didn't care if it were shot, drenched, kicked, nearly eaten, or leashed. It would just give it's hilarious catch phrase and move on. I salute Kuroneko and request anyone else who understands his pure awesomeness to do the same.

Yes, I have made an AMV consisting of only the cat's every appearance. Yes, I have made a CD cover consisting of only the cat's every appearance. Yes, I do have the plushie and the keychain.

    Section IV

I know you all want to see the surprise. I just know you do.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make this any smaller than it is. I tried for 800x600 and couldn't fit nearly enough. So, here is a 1024x768 image of every cool person's avatar to date.

Here's to another year of FFR!

    ~Squeek

PS - Holy crap, did I type all this?

Edit - I thought the FFR Module would work, but it did not. I uploaded the image to my own webspace and it should now work.

Wow...this is a first for me. I actually teared up at reading this. It makes perfect sense...I really ought to change my contacts before they dry my eyeballs out.

Ok, seriously. This is probably the greatest compliment I've recieved in the last year or so. When I have my birthday you'll be at the top of my compliments list. What you said about me making an impact on CT within a week...actually astonished me. Thanks so much.

And don't forget. Happy birthday to the man who admits cats own his soul!

        'grats!

One game Brainmaster isn't good at is SM. So I'm sure you beat him in that.

I have a few questions though. What are the stats for your computer and why are you paranoid about giving away information about yourself?

First of all, sorry if the image didn't work for anyone. The edit on the bottom explains why.

          Q - No problem. It is well-deserved.

Chardish - 'Tis what I was aiming for, you know.

Bandit - I'm not that great at Stepmania either. It's basically the reason I quit playing. All I could do was read arrow speeds fast. I never managed to full combo Waka Laka or AAA J219.

Specs on my computer: 3.0ghz p4ht 800mhz FSB, 1gb DDR2 ram, Radeon x300, Sound Blaster Audigy 2, 5.1 surround, dual monitor. Cost: a little over 1,300. If you were the one who was customizing a computer a while back, I think you actually beat me.

I'm paranoid about giving away personal information because it's how I was raised. I've been on the 'net since it became popular in the early 90s and security wasn't all it was meant to be back in that day. Not like it's gotten any better, but it's just carried on from then on as such. Posting a picture here was a huge step for me, considering I've now found TWO people on this site that live relatively close to me and are recognized posters.

That and... Squeek... I love you, man! Too bad I'm not one of the more known people to you... All we ever did to talk was maybe a bit in the chatroom, and A LOT of debating over video games that one week where it was debate after debate... lol

Great to have you around though! Wouldn't be the same without you for sure... Happy B-Day so to speak... lol

Happy Birthday Squeek. You didn't get your goal of 2005 posts because some of the Garbage Bin posts were deleted. 1 year on FFR, that was a good year. Lets make 2005 better! You were a very intelligent poster from when I started caring about the FFR forums and re registered as my current username.

btw Chrissi and flypie want to see pictures of your birthday suit =O

So many people changed theirs shortly before I made it. HVAM, Flypie, Spazz, and I don't even know when Tny got rid of his, so I just found a Mario & Yoshi picture in Google and stuck it in there.

And, yea.. You should learn to trust people. The 'net is now the same as anywhere else to meet people (in a sense). I'm not saying post your address and phone number on the forums, but I don't really see anything wrong in giving out other information like name, hobbies, and other information friends and such would know (who you knew in person). *shrugs* I was suprised to see your picture in the picture thread though...

At Squeek, I have always admired you ever since I joined this forum. Let me just say, your best posts are owning those ps2 and xbox fanboys. GCN 4 LYFE. Seriously, in the Video Games sections you have always regained the glory of the Gamecube even when people say it is just for kids (fools). Your grammar has always been excellent and I have always looked up to your posts which are PARAGRAPHS. GG, and here's to another year, Squeek.

IF YOU ARE THE BOMB YOU WILL CLICK THIS and if you dont, you suck.
