It's time to do away with the current chat.

To Synth and everyone else:

The current FFR chat is riddled with numerous issues, primarily the ease in which a person can abuse the chat (through emoticon flooding, or as we saw earlier today, a user by the name of the_creeper flooding the chat with 72 point text and automatically rejoining after being autokicked.) In addition, the chat supports a limited number of users, is extremely buggy, and has further issues with the webcam support, where many users have found it humorous to act inappropriately.

It's time to get some sort of IRC module in place of the current chat. IRC works so much better than pnukecomm because it is much harder to abuse, exists on an external server, and already has an infrastructure set up (irc.eggheads.org #flashflashrevolution). It supports innumerable users, allows for idling, and is rarely down. In addition, features like topics and nick changes make it more appropriate as a chat medium, and the ease in which operators can kick/ban/temporary ban means that few people will act up. Finally, whereas Flash applications periodically lose their connection to the server, IRC rarely acts up in this regard.

It's time for change. It's time to do away with the current chat, and usher in IRC.

I would like the eggheads.org server if LD didn't have complete reign over it because although he does stuff on the forums fine he's a bit pussified on the IRC chat sometimes and will often make a big deal if a mod does something wrong

I would like the IRC chat more if aperson was in charge of it

also i believe there are new Versions of the chat that have similar properties of an IRC chat... I believe that if not a whole new chat will be made to replace the current one then to atleast upgrade the current one.

how about people just keep screen shotting the spammers untill people just know if they spam they get banned?

seriously if this goes over to plain text irc it will die fast!

the reason the chat is great here is coz its so interactive.

Simply banning the worst spammers first then the rest i belive will cure the problem.

I will be spending the next 4 weeks screenshotting and shaming spammers!

or if a 10 minute ban was inforced afetr kick then that would also help.!

I say keep the chat we have now/upgrade it and ban the idiots. I'm sure there's some way to put a message limit/emote limit per minute or something. Having webcams adds some fun to the chat. I say keep them if at all possible.

In a word, no.

Synth should be handed over ownership of the channel, and all current mods/admins should be made into SOPs.


If one person is allowed to impose their agenda on the channel, it just won't work. If one op is allowed to have more power than others, it doesn't work either.

For example, I recall that we had a bit of an issue a while back then when you banned DeepBlueSea for doing nothing other than hosting blur/payon/other files you don't like on his CTCP server, then banning me when I tried to unban him. Eventually LD had to revoke your op privileges in the channel, and you threw a hissy fit until he gave them back just to make you shut up.

Did I just say all that? How impolitic of me.

Then again, those were back in the wonderful(?) days of WSC vs. Arch. Ah, how times change.

It's harder than it looks.

First of all, a main reason people go into the chat is for webcams, mics, and meeting others. An IRC room would take away two of those three things. I think a lot of people would be upset if the chat as it is was taken away, I know I would be. A lot of you people hardly spend any time in that chatroom, how can you judge it? I go in there every day, except when i'm on vacation or something like that, and have been doing so for the past year and two months. Changing that into an IRC chat would not solve the problem, and would probably make things more hectic.

A lot of the people that need to be banned can't be, their IPs change all the time. What needs to be done is ISP contacting, and more of it. I know that Synth has been busy recently, and I know that I've probably annoyed the crap out of him on AIM reporting to him everything that has happened, but there are never any mods in the chatroom from about 9:30 p.m. - 12 a.m., which is the busy time. PurplePoise and blitzmage are the ONLY chat mods i see in there frequently, and they live in england. With the time differences, and school, they can't be in the chat when it needs them the most. Other chat mods i see in there once or twice a week, or less. This also needs to be realized.

I think you need to look at this realisiticallly, we want more people to join FFR, and not leave because we turned it into a stupid IRC chanel. We just need an upgraded, better chat. As we all know, Synth is working on R2 and trying to fix multiplayer, so he doesn't have time to fix this, but we need to be more patient with the chat and see what small things he can do to it for the better.

that is a good idea... if somehow a ban option could be put into the chat directly it could help the problem but ive also seen that there is a need for a typed kick command... sometimes there is a person who comes in and goes in a personal room. since he is no longer on the user list he cannot be clicked. If he cannot be clicked he cannot be kicked resulting in a unkickable spammer... this problem is one of the most annoying and really needs to be fixed.

Castrate yourself. You obviously spend too much time not using your brain and the only explanation is that too much blood is going to your penis and not your brain limiting your thought process.

What are you talking about? I didn't say anything about banning in chat, I said ISP contacting. Stop skimming and take the time to read an intelligent post.
