Now this is interesting because you DID mean it.
Perhaps you're not quite sure what you meant exactly.
Let me enlighten you and everyone else who uses the word "gay" or "fag" in this sense.
In the context, the term "gay" is not used as a description of sexual inclination; rather, it is used as an adjective with a negative attribute(such as "suck" in "that sucks").
Therefore, the deeper meaning of saying "that's gay" pertaining to the term "gay" itself is to say that being gay is not a positive attribute for a person to have.
Think about how this applies to insults such as "you fag"(in the context of someone not being homosexual yet you'd call them such anyway), and think about how that mentally/emotionally affects homosexual people.

Myself, I really don't care if faggots get pissed when I say "that's gay". They're just being overly pissy about the fact that they're the minority and they feel a need to take advantage in a way that demonstrates themselves as the more pure side of the issue. If any gay person EVER tries to tell you that it's an insult to them when you say "that's gay", tell them to shut their prissy little asses up, because by that logic, they're offending hookers and concubines of all sorts all across the globe when they say "that sucks".
