Try your luck at this problem.

My friend and I are at or above the level of "Computer Technicians". We've solved dozens of problems at our school, home, and other places all related to computers. But when one of us gets a problem and cannot solve it, you know it's big. /End Background information.

The Internet is down on my computer. Yes, I realize I've posted a topic. It's not that hard to get on the other computer in my house. So, from this sentence alone, you should know one thing: it's only broken on my computer. But, that's in my list of things I've verified.

    1. The problem only exists on my computer.
    2. The router recognizes my computer as one on the network.
    3. I can ping other computers in the house and websites.
    4. I cannot ping my computer from other computers.
    5. The network was fine yesterday.
    6. Switching the cables to another slot on the router did not work.
    7. Putting another ethernet cable into my computer (from the one that works) did not work.
    8. I cannot access shared folders over the network.
    9. I cannot access my own router.
    10. The cable modem is working properly as this computer is fine.
    11. I send and receive packets frequently according to my network connection.
    12. The network connection is enabled and running at 100.0 Mbps.
    13. Norton and Spybot found nothing.
    14. TCPView is finding no interrupting signals.
    Edit:
    15. Attempted use on two different browsers with 0% success rate.
    16. Attempted logon of two different chat programs with 100% failure rate.

I think I've covered everything. My friend and I are stumped. This problem occured overnight sometime between 4:30am and 2:30pm (bedtime to wakeup time).

If you're going to post something retarded like "Clear your Cache" or "Reformat your computer", don't even bother. It's old, not funny, and completely irrelevant in this situation. What I would like are helpful suggestions that I may or may not have overlooked.

Yea, that doesn't work either. Opera and IE failed. I'll edit my topic to include this.

Move your computer over to your other computer spot, plug in everything, and put that computer where the first computer was, also plug in everything. Try it out and check if there is any differences.

            Guaranteed Fix:

EDIT: Just noticed that spybot found nothing.
Scan your PC with Avast! Antivirus for viruses
            Get a Winsockfix

            That's what fixed mine.

              Clear your cache.

No, but seriously...you say that your computer died yesterday? And it was working before that? Well first think, what did I do between now and then. Next, have you tried System Restore? I know it sounds like a completely obvoius solution, but lots of computer gurus try everything before remembering it and it usually ends up working. Finally, if all else fails, and I know you think this is retarded, but back everything up and reformat. That'll usually clear up any problem, even if it is a bit annoying and time consuming solution.

Truthfully, I don't see what that would do. On the computer I'm on now the network is fine. The cable is 100 feet and only needs to be about 5. So I took it up to my room and plugged it in to see no difference. What could changing the location of the computer fix?

Sorry if that sounded angry...trying not to come off as such.

I used Spy-Bot and Norton Antivirus 2004. Would any of those somehow scan anything better than the ones I've already used? I'll look up winsockfix after this post to see what that's all about.

Edit: Umm... I don't think I could even use these programs... I can't transfer over the LAN and I can't download onto the computer that needs it. It has a shared folder but I cannot access it from down here much like I cannot access this computer from upstairs.

What I'm planning to do is let it solve itself. It caused the error by itself so it's likely to be able to fix itself.

Oh, by the way. If it helps, the lights on the back of the "broken" computer are red and orange instead of the standard orange and green. I know what it means, but it might help those trying to solve it figure out anything more.

Edit: Anti posted before I could.

System Restore sounds like a plan. Just so you know, the PC isn't "dead", just some unknown error in the internet connection. It's a brand new computer (very nice by the way) that shouldn't be having any problems.

What I did between the time it broke and the time it was working? I slept. Seriously. It worked when I turned it off last night. It wasn't when I turned it on.

Maybe a connection problem is why I suggested re-locating to see if anything changes.

                      I used Spy-Bot and Norton Antivirus 2004.
That's your problem right there. First of all, always do spyware scans with at least two programs, and Ad-aware is better than Spybot (I use both, they catch stuff the other misses). Second, Symantic is a TERRIBLE company, and Norton sucks. Get Mcafee. You'll thank me for it later.

Crap. My huge long post didn't post properly. Oh well.

                        1. System restore did not work.

                        2. Computer's Specs:

                        3.0ghz P4 ht
                        1.0gb DDR2 533mhz
More amazing stats that aren't needed to know in order to fix this problem.

                        Age: 1 week.

Don't think this is the problem.

                        3. Internet's specs:

Cox cable internet routed 3 ways. 2/3 computers work. Mine worked until today.

I figured out a way to transfer the files I need to, so I'll go ahead and try that. I don't see how I could get McAfee without paying. The download says it is free but links me to a mcafee page where I'd have to pay. I don't care enough to keep at it. I got Ad-Aware and WinSockFix

                        **Edit**

Ran Ad-Aware and found nothing. Ran WinSockFix and solved nothing. Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers for my network card and got me nowhere.

I'm completely stumped. Though my guesses intrigue me to believe that the error is most likely coming from the network card. I do not think it is virus-related.

                        **Edit 2**

Ugh. I'm tired. If it's still broken tomorrow I'll come look at all the other suggestions posted overnight. I still have some anime to watch (Evangelion!) and can only watch it on my upstairs computer (can't access files over the network...). I appreciate all the help that's been given thus far and hope for more to come in my 12+ hour absence of sleep. Maybe we can figure out this problem and beat the .... whatever it is we're fighting against.

                        ~Squeek

PS - I'll try to get my friend over here tomorrow and see if we can't tackle it together in person. Trying to solve things over phone conversations is too hard.

I would seriously consider backing up your files and doing a format.

You know, there is something entirely possible...it could be a faulty connection simply caused by a broken router, or by a loose connection. Check two things. One, borrow a different router from someone, go through the long, annoying process of installin that, see if it works. Next, make sure that not only are the connectors on the router working and connected, make sure that the actual ports on your computer aren't somehow faulty. If it's only a week old then its entirely possible they gave you faulty ports and you haven't noticed it till now.
