I was at a party a few days ago, and my friend Phoebe walks in with her boyfriend, Bryan. Bryan's laughing, and Phoebe's trying to get these stupid plastic handcuffs off of her wrists. We all go over to see what the big deal is, and we found out, the safe-release switch was broken, and no one had a key.
"Big deal" I said, "So break them."
But she wouldn't have that; the cuffs belonged to her little brother, who would throw a fit if he went to play with them, and they were missing or in several pieces. She could have easily broken out, then paid $2 for another pair, and her brother woudl have never known the difference, but she was too smart for that. She then spent the next 45 minutes trying to loosen them and pick the lock at the same time. Turns out, it wasn't a really hard lock to pick, and could've been done in 2 minutes (like the second cuff was) if she had been doing it right the whole time. Instead, she spent the majority of an hour picking a lock, when she could've just paid $2 and hand em off in seconds.
Am I missing something, or is she just subbornly dumb?
