FFR North 2020

Pretty bummed that AN is cancelled this year, mostly since I wanted to meet a bunch of you IRL.

But why can't we get together and hold a VIRTUAL con? Discord, Zoom, Bluejeans, Webex, etc.

At the very least we could play board games and chat, but I was thinking how cool it would be to have members make their own "panels" just like a real con. A few members can submit panels to be put in a small schedule and talk about whatever subject they get approved for. Also video/anime sessions, Q&As, all of the regular attractions.

Gauging interest-- is this the kind of thing people would be interested in doing? Who would participate as a guest, a panelist, security, admin?

For example, I'd be willing to make panels and events, and also advise on logistics and admin stuff. But I don't have the qualifications to actually host or admin the virtual con.

EDIT: Also, it might only be a Saturday afternoon/evening, depending on interest. Very little time commitment required.

Cosplay session is a great idea too tbh. (Secretly wondering what a dealer's room/artists' alley analogue would be...)

Any leadership or admin interest? Post here or let me know if you'd be willing to volunteer. It's mostly a matter of coordinating dates and setting up con schedules, as well as finding the best teleconferencing options

Thanks for suggesting this! I'm not sure what you're aiming for in particular, or if there are certain restrictions in place. Online gamerooms (kind of like jackbox tv) could be fun with voice chats.

That's mostly what I would defer to you guys. I don't want to act or organize on behalf of FFR: The Website, which is why I pitched this as a suggestion for a casual event. FFR admin can promote this as much or as little as you want. When I made this thread I was thinking in terms of the FFR AN threads, which are official only in their capacity to get people to AN itself, and after that it is no longer in FFR's jurisdiction.

Regarding scope, the entire thing would just be a bunch of voice/video-chats. In those video-chats we would be doing board games, video games, user-driven panels (think lectures and presentations), and maybe movie screenings, idk. Whatever gets the most interest, but nothing significantly outside that scope.

TL;DR the virtual con would not extend beyond video calling or voice calling in a group.

If there's a way to force 18+ attendance that would be ideal too. None of this hinges on that though: we just would need to make sure all content is age-appropriate.

EDIT: Broadly speaking, I want to make sure this kind of thing gets admin approval before I start making moves.

I'd not mind doing some sort of simfiling concepts/theory panel for this, if people would accept something like this (assuming that staff is alright with it).

EDIT: can include concepts of stuff for FFR, osu!mania, Etterna for keyboard stuff and DDR, ITG, PIU (singles/doubles) - just a general thought.

I think there's a ton of active members in the player-base more knowledgeable around Tabletop Simulator vs VR Chat. I mean, it makes sense from the 'convention' perspective of it.
