People don't elect politicians on the belief that they're not going to follow through with their promises. People elect them because they WANT them to, and proceed to be disappointed when they don't.
People are very, very afraid, because while Trump couldn't double-back on his word on everything he's ever said any faster, that fact makes him even more so unpredictable, and we can only act on the assumption that his campaign rhetoric is what he actually wants. And his lack of prior presence in politics gives us no inclination that he'll follow the same trend as the rest of them.
