    Operation Overlord: Mission Accomplished

As a supplement to my 15 page research paper, I was supposed to use one(or more) of the 8 intelligences to complete this project. My topic was D-day, so I decided to make an intricate model of it. I spent 4-5 hours on this a night for a solid week. I mostly did this project for my own satisfaction (being a hobby modelist), and will keep this model in my room, or use it for Warhammer 40K and the like.

I used a 3x4 piece of plywood for the base, 3 slabs of cardboard in the "stair" effect to appear as if the beach had a slight incline, a mixture of styrofoam and cardboard for the cliff, and EZ water for the water (god I love that stuff)

I primed and hand painted each soldier and built the LST from a modeling kit, primed and painted that. Hedgehogs (barricades) came in a box...6 to a box. Middle bunker is a rectangle shaped food product, and outer two are modified yogurt cups.

Feel free to ask questions about the model, the reason I posted this was due to the immense relief from finishing it.

I know I'm not the best photographer...if you want a closeup or a different angle, feel free to ask.

So, without further ado, a small scene of Omaha Beach:

    GO! GO! G.I. JOE!

The bunkers look like plastic cups.

I originally wanted to make a hill to the top of the cliff, but there was hardly enough room, and it would have taken a few more days of planning and construction (which I don't have)

yes, two of the bunkers are plastic...from yogurt containers. They actually look fairly convincing when the 88mm guns are inside them (not in the picture)

AND you're using it for Warhammer?
do you play original warhammer, or 40k?

I'm thinking tyranid allies versus imperial axis...ha

And there is no glitter on the table...there is some tacky glue...but no glitter

              So the world is flat.
huh? what are you trying to say? It's supposed to be 1/4 mile long and 1/8 mile wide (approximately)

the water is the best part, IMO. and u need explosions. lots of explosions. i dont know or care how u do it, but make something look like it's being exploded.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

it's barely noticeable from the pics, but there are numerous mortar explosions on the beach (look closely for black smudges). These foxholes are about 1/8 inch deep and some have prone soldiers clinging to the sides.

i originally had wanted to take toothpicks into the EZ water and force some water up, so it would look like machine gun bursts in the water, alas the EZ water was not deep enough to do this.

the toothpick thing would have been awesome. i'm sure there's some way u coulda done up the dirt to look like a shell was exploding there. oh well, maybe next time, hahaha

yeah...the only problem with the original was the spacing...the proportions just weren't correct. Other than that...
