To be honest 2.97 sounds like you barely met the requirements. That's different from having a GPA high enough to get accepted, so you should have had something other than GPA that stands out a lot

Funny story about SFU, I was accepted, but I didn't get an email or nothing, and when I went to check the other day, they had cancelled my fucking acceptance because I apparently took over 2 weeks to accept. Then I got a letter in the mail a few days saying I was in and I needed to pay my deposit... So pissed off about that. Ugh.

Was this recent? You should completely be allowed to still get into that school, they didn't give you enough notice. If you want in there, explain your situation, and get in there..well, provided when you go to them you can pay your deposit right then. That is completely unacceptable what happened, and I'm sure someone there would be like 'hmm oh'

Or, give it until next term to try getting in again to UBC. That your grades are improving over time, and since it seems likely that they will remain high, speaks well of you, and I would point that out in documentation in the future should you try to re-apply.

In the future, if you are clearly struggling with a course, consider dropping it.

Founding a university IS quite the business venture, that would definitely show them to not accept you into their business program.

Shit happens, and it sucks. If you want it bad enough, do what you need to do to give you better chances and apply again.

Just because you meet requirements doesn't mean you'll get in.

When I applied to dental school I applied with a ridiculously high GPA and a top percentile DAT score. I also scored 34/35 on their interview. They still rejected me. I was destroyed, I cried and I didn't even know what to do with myself. By all metrics my application was almost perfect, but it didn't really matter. That year they received 700 applications for 35 spots, they gave out 70 interviews and almost everyone that had an interview had virtually identical stats or higher than me anyway.

I asked what I could do to improve my chances, went back to school for another year and took some classes, reapplied and got in the second time.


Sounds like you have a plan though, so work your ass off, do the best you can do and see where the cards fall. Good luck.

So, SFU e-mailed me today and is giving me Today and Tomorrow to let me pay my deposit, so I will be paying that deposit and going to SFU in the Fall, Gotta boost that GPA higher so I can stand a better chance at getting into UBC.

I was struggling with my Calc class last semester so I dropped it and took a W, way better than an F.

just gonna say that GPAs in canada are significantly lower the the US due to different scaling in %; a 3.12 actually not bad, add .5-75 in average and you get a rough equivalent to the US.

i mean he's not summa cum laude or anything but he's not retarded

Thanks, I did fuck my first year up. I ended it with a 2.4 or 2.5 GPA, I had to bust my balls second year to raise that, so I am pretty proud of raising it that much.

I was never once presented with my grades in the form of a GPA in Canada. We dealt exclusively with the numerical average grade without mapping it onto anything else.

GPA depends on the school in Canada. U of Guelph gave percents, UNB gives GPA which converts to letter grades. When thinking about grad school, I remember converting % to letter grades to figure out requirements.

I've had a score applied to my grades but it never mapped onto the 4 point GPA system.

At Uwindsor my grade was given as a percentage in each class and then a number out of 13. It's not standardized at all which makes it awkward.
