and i had another point to make about mac's costomer service but i kept being asked to log in and it kept saying it was incorrect, and then my message got erased, so i just wont bother. Not that anyone cares anyway. Bye.

Sorry for bumping, but I haven't been here for a while (I'll explain later) and I didnt' see this until now. But hobbsgoblin, your post just made me laugh out loud. Honestly. Was it true? Who cares? It was funny as fuck. Props to you.Comment

Re: Hey #($#er
ZOMBIE THREAD, couldn't let this pass.
While booting Windows will blind me with a disgusting rendition of an assy logo. This is no different from idiots who bash Windows XP because it has a "fisher price" interface, or morons who bash *NIX because "omg it has a command line wtf".Originally posted by hobbsgoblinI go over to one of my friends houses whose running panther or OS 10 or whatever the hell you mac people use. I turn the box on and instantly I'm bombarded with a legion of bright, artificially happy colors and bubbly, superfluous window decorations. I nearly passed out from the unprovoked guerilla attack on my senses. My head is still spinning.
Then there's Windows' default newbie control systems. Hidden file extensions, simplified ACLs for NTFS, folders that are inaccessible to everyone (including the administrator) because these folders are somehow important (System Restore...), wizards up the ass, &c. Yet, by default, users are Administrators. I would hope that people with a fully functioning brain would use limited accounts on a regular basis. To my knowledge, all *NIX systems do this, including OS X. Windows seems to be for those who can't live without a helmet; doing simple things like changing the ACL on a service is an ungodly process that even an experienced UNIX guy would scream at. The operating system places itself before the user. God forbid you ever have an application die and keep a file lock open, because you won't be able to modify that file in any way for the rest of the time the OS is active. At least if you log in as root on *NIX, you have TOTAL CONTROL.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinOnce I managed to wrap my head around this neon themed carnival of a GUI, I failed to find any redeeming features in the system itself. The whole idea of "user friendly" is cruely mutilated on macs, they seem to be designed for the type of person who wears a helmet everywhere and isn't allowed near any sharp objects. The whole thing is designed as a fail safe to insure that I dont do anything the mac deems irresponsible.
What if you saved the file in a different drive? What if you aren't an asshole and use multiple partitions because you don't want to lose your personal data if the operating system dies and a complete reformatting of the system partition is necessary? C:\ isn't such a great answer to everything unless you've mounted other partitions on folders within C:\. Also, searching through C:\ searches through an assload of crap; it goes through Program Files, through WINDOWS, and so on.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinFor instance, finding files. on a PC, to find a file, you go to my computer, then C: then wherever you savced the file. its not so simple on a mac. Finding anything is closer to an archeological dig, than searching for a file on you computer. You pick a section of your computer that seems plausible, and then begin the slow, tedious dig through layers and layers of crap. Of course the file is nowhere near there, its actually hidden deep inside the bowels of the mac (which it wont let you access because it assumes your not able avoid walking into walls let alone operate your computer, which actually may be true with some mac users) in a file called 13Qpf or something equally meaningless.
I don't see what's so different about just searching from '/'. Hell, all of one's personal items should be under /home, anyway.
Agreed.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinAll of this takes hours because the thing is SO DAMN SLOW. Which brings me to my next point, the nonsensical use and price of mac hardware. Volumes could be written on the subject. Entire textbooks.
Let's measure the speed of cars by their RPM.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinHAY MAX SUK I HEARD THEY ONLY RUN @ 2.5 GHZ HUR HUR. It's true! you pay like 2k for this processor that only runs at midrange speeds!
The AMD Opteron *50 ranges from ~$400 to $2000 depending on if you'd want an SMP system/how many processors you'd want in the SMP system, and only runs around 2.4 GHz. I'd bet that Opterons would beat the shit out of just about every other x86 (and probably the G5 series) processor.
Same thing is done with Windows, IMO. People are too lazy to use anything else and are satisfied with what it does (regardless of how well it does it).Originally posted by hobbsgoblinA common excuse from mac users is "well it does what i want it to right?" yes, it does, BUT YOUR PAYING LIKE $5000 FOR THIS PIECE OF (#$% COMPUTER! Why is it so hard to accept that the comparny is CHEATING you, operating off your computer naivete?
I haven't ever had hardware upgrade problems with Macs. I've had more problems when people ask me to upgrade their PCs because they purchased stupid POS cheapass prebuilt systems from Dell and eMachines.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinAnd then you cant even upgrade anything (except the video cardin some models as you pointed out), you have to buy a whole new #$#ing computer!
... then get a mouse with two buttons?Originally posted by hobbsgoblinAnd whats the mice? not only do the optical mice have a tracking rate of -2, they're all single click! I want my right click damnit!
Y'know, some people don't care about games.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinOn to software. Aside from the fact that all computer games come out AT LEAST 6 six monthes after they do on pc (and then suck anyway) mac users have some serious delusions about software.
Agreed.Originally posted by hobbsgoblinNow I'm free to admit that some video and graphics programs work a little better on macs, thats what they're geared towards. But they work just fine on PC's too! why is this so hard to grasp? i have photoshop open on my pc right now! it is not a mac #$#ing only program! oh, and just yesterday, I edited some movie clips... ON MY PC! WOW! WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?!
I think I'll go use an operating system that gives me real freedom. Have fun with Windows, I'll stick with *NIX.I think I'll go play a pc only game and laugh at your technical inferiority. Get a life and quit insulting people when you know you suck.
Something that bothers me is that people seem to believe that Windows is the only OS for PCs, clearly shown in your post, hobbsgoblin.hooray bsd-tanComment

I know hobbsgoblin in person, and to be frank, he hates Windows as much as you do. He wasn't promoting Windows, he was simply bashing the Mac.
Oh, and you have to give him the point about the games, though. I mean, Mac users just got UT2004, and only got 2003 a few months before that.Comment

There are advantages and disadvantages with both.
The windows users need an extra 1 or 2 steps to complete an operation.
Mac has more shortcuts to make it easier and faster.
Windows 95/NT operating systems do not allow certain characters in file naming, such as ? < > / \ *.
Windows has more programs availible then the mac. 80% of the the microsoft programs are repeats but with different names. Pc's are not more powerful than macs. The PowerPC G4(developed by apple) has a big difference between the Intel processor.
Now look at these differences;
Intel 2.6 GHz Pentium 4- MTOPS-6,950
Apple Dual 1000MHz G$ power pc- MTOPS-27,000
i think macs are better for some things and pc's for other

You also can't create a file named "nul" on windows/linux. I don't know about macs, but try creating a file named "nul", with no extension. Most systems will not accept the name. There are a few more funny protected names on most PCs.
Edit: Don't try on '95, it crashes the system, or so I've heard.C is for Charisma, it's why people think I'm great! I make my friends all laugh and smile and never want to hate!Comment

Gaming, yes. Windows does have an undeniable lead in games. Though, most of my Mac using acquaintances have said that they don't care about games at all; they're more interested in doing something else.

UFS2 is an extension to the well-known UFS. It adds 64 bit block
pointers (breaking the 1T barrier), support for extended file storage,
and a few other things.
that answer it for yah?
