South Africa's first black president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela has died, South Africa's president says.

Mr Mandela, 95, led South Africa's transition from white-minority rule in the 1990s, after 27 years in prison.

He had been receiving intense home-based medical care for a lung infection after three months in hospital.

Man that's sad news. I was hoping he was going to get better, atleast he lived a long life..Even if he was sick towards the end.

What a total inspiration to a myriad of people. I admire how he fought a morally and ethically wrong system and he changed the world for better. He not only affected South African affairs, he affected global affairs and I admire all that he has done for the world. He will be sorely missed, a politician of the highest note and a social activist of the highest note.

But yeah, reaching the ripe age of 95 is impressive. I don't know much about the guy to be honest except that he was pretty iconic for a movement he helped make, but my condolences go out to him.
