Re: Who did you look up to?

Gonna rattle off a few here.

      - Pump It Up: ZELLLOOO. If you don't know who this is, you really should watch some YouTube videos of him, because he truly is an awesome player. He's also incredibly nice and has a playful arrogance that makes him a blast to be around. He's also very motivational, and always in the spirit of competition come tournament time. I would love to get as good as him someday, but shit... that's a loooooooooooooooooong time away.

      - In The Groove: WinDEU. He's no Mad Matt, no Serenade, or no (insert one of many stupid-fucking-high-tier players), but he's the player that was responsible for my rise in skill and knowledge in this game. It's amazing that we even met, because (at the time) we were both quite introverted and didn't talk much, we just played the game. He's also the one that gave me eventual advice on coursing and simfiling (for double and for PIU). He's also a really dedicated player; he's willing to fixate himself on a goal and attempt to meet it even if it takes a long time.

      - Flash Flash Revolution: bmah

I did NOT expect you to pick me under any circumstance, and it's just that much funnier because I look up to you quite a bit as well. I owe a lot of my simfiling ability to bmah and his help back in 2009, where he sat through revision after revision after revision after revision after revision after revision of Tageri... once I saw the incredibly positive response that the file had, I knew that I couldn't stop charting. Soon after, the DF engine was alive and I was making all sorts of simfiles to it. By the time FFR came back, I was more than confident enough to judge files because I tested myself up and down with simfiling, even stepping out of my comfort zone and submitting to a SM pack (Community Keyboard Megapack 4). He's quite knowledgeable in consideration to music and is always resourceful.

      - Stepmania [4k]: Staiain, Dossar

Staiain is a genuinely nice person who just loves to shit on StepMania. It's amazing just combing through some of his scores and realizing how possible certain things are. From a player's perspective, Staiain really holds a special place in my heart because he never stops believing in what he thinks is possible, even when we tell him that he's a maniac and should stop, haha.

Dossar was one of the biggest reasons I kept improving in skill on Stepmania, mostly because he was surprisingly versatile and I wanted that kind of versatility in skill sets. His MA wasn't the greatest, but it was just oddly consistent across any kind of file. In addition to that, his concept of charting for harder files somewhat opened my eyes to playing and creating dumpfiles, which I always use for training. I could somewhat consider Dossar as a good person to look up to on FFR, mostly because I admire (and honestly, have taken after) his ability to analyze files down to their most basic form in an effort to strategize.

          I second all of this

WinDEU is one of the most innovative/forward-thinking charters of all time and has contributed more to rhythm games than countless other high-skill players have. It's really lame that he doesn't have more of a platform for his ideas. I hope he is in control of a major game design project some day.

Re: Who did you look up to?

for stepmania, it was zaghurim, exige, and tsuka. tsuka basically taught me everything I know about simfile making.

            for FFR nobody. ffr sux

for Pump it Up easy my late friend Jon Ledgerwood. He would always make fun of me for playing ITG and really pushed me to get better at Pump. He unfortunately passed away a few years back after quitting, and I really wish I could show him how much better I've gotten because of him.

for ITG, a variety of people. calimist was one of our group's biggest influences. what kept us playing was the rivalry between us and the Fredericton ITG crew that occasionally came over to play against us. We were pretty even and those were probably the best rhythm gaming days of my life. So much fun.

Re: Who did you look up to?

In DDR. I always looked up to those insane japanese players like BROSONI and RIN-GO. Monsters they are and in ITG I looked up to Mad Matt cause he kinda seemed like he could do any map on pad, he is a true monster.

For SM I look up to Staiain cause he seems able to do anything no matter how hard or stupid it is and hes one of the first SM players I came into contact with through a different platform. I also looked up to IzzySM for his AAAA scores he did. Madness.

"Oh, just my cock." Replied Foil.
"That just will not do." was keywii's response as she lunged for the scissors, pulled the blades apart, and clamped them down on the base of foil's shaft. Blood start gushing out of the wound where his penis used to be.
                    "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Yelled Foil in horror.
"Don't worry. I'm a wizard" uttered Keywii. And with that, Foil's penis grew back.

Stepmania: BemaniRuler, Arch, and Reach. I'd name Dossar here, but I wouldn't say he was inspirational per se -- but depressing, haha. His ability to control hyper-fast chaos is something I've never been able to achieve (my speed is sorely lacking).

FFR: Hmm, I suppose Leonid and Halogen. Seeing them constantly destroy shit and achieve their goals was something I always strongly admired.

Re: Who did you look up to?

Several years ago, I stumbled across Laggy's SM videos on youtube when I started playing SM. And like anyone who hadn't seen an adept rhythm gamer play their game, I was totally blown away by his skill; you could say that I looked up to him. I was also first introduced to FFR by his videos.

Right now I mostly look up to the really proficient steppers and the people that are really knowledgeable and helpful about music and stepcharts, such as Halogen and bmah. It's people like them who keep the game fresh and interesting.
