Let him in the fucking garbage bin are ya'll really that big of haters? Attractive has, without grounds, called me a pathological liar numerous times but he is a funny intellectual dude and I would appreciate his additional input regardless. Let the dude in already Jesus Christ
I actually agree with this. Anyone who wants to see the forum ought to be able to opt in, without being looked at by a mod or something. They can always be kicked out later if they don't fit in, after all.
absolutely this.
having a private forum has some value. everyone should just have a button to activate it, though. "turn on The Garbage Bin"
I like tgb, but it's just a small clique, as are our numerous Skype groups, etc. it just happens to be located within these message boards. let everyone in, and then let the panel decide who's worthy to sit at the lunch table.
overall, this is a non-issue. I will never post about this again ever ever ever ever. ever.
I'd like to comment on this, but I really am out of the loop when it comes to TGB, especially since its more recent infrastructure was created by Sprite-, who is currently far too busy to moderate the site anymore. I have no clue why he did it; maybe it was for shits, maybe something else. I always found TGB to be mysterious in that way.
I imagine TGB went private because of concerns about shitty users making a shitty forum way shittier than was absolutely necessary. You have to find the Goldilocks Shit Ratio (GSR)
I like the "opt-in, get kicked later" approach. Innocent until proven guilty and all that.

I never understood why he did it either. He didn't really post much in the garbage bin in the years leading up to the auction. It came out of nowhere. I remember he implied that the mod position was going to be temporary, but apparently it wasnt? The whole auction thing seemed like a big joke.
but the credits spent were non-refundable, so the auction results must stand
If you really want to argue this, half of those credits were given to the winner by other people, many of whom didn't even post in the garbage bin much. If anything, the mod position should be rotating, not fixed for the rest of eternity. What makes the auction winner deserving of lifetime TGB mod? The fact that an admin decided to have an auction on a whim? I really dont think there was much merit in the auction in the first place.
Also, the auction thread was made during a time when there were all sorts of weird auction threads going on in TGB. It was pretty much "the biggest auction thread" of the auction thread trend. I dont think that the results should stand forever. It was implied that the person would be paying for the mod position for a short time, similar to how people were paying credits to be red or green in prochat for a couple days.
