This looks like something that was sent to someone who's ban evaded several times. Majority of the time when I was in the mod CP where we can see all bans issues and reasons they had actual reasons to them. On occasion there would be ones that were more like that but it was in instances of constant ban evasion or constant misbehaving on the users part. What I think I find funniest of all with this community is they say that staff has to "lighten up and joke around more" but then everyone's pissed when someone on staff does.

Which again leads me to the dog example, if you dont give a professionally states reason, as should be done in a moderator or administrators position, you leave yourself open to people reatliating over, and over, and over, and over, in anger either because you were an asshat and didnt explain what they were banned to set them at ease, or because they simply may not understand and be trying to find the answers, again to set themselves at ease.

You're missing one point though -- the instance that I'm referring to is an "inexcusable" level ban, which does result as a permanent ban. If anyone gets a ban that harsh, they're doing something with very clear intent.

Low-level infractions might happen due to misunderstandings, but an infraction that severe is something that is 100% voluntary. There are levels of infractions where a warning won't be given in this system, and it goes precisely with this reason: it's something extremely severe that you are doing on your own. If a person wants to retaliate from a particular ban like that, they don't need a reason to because they're doing something to provoke a ban that serious.

Take the Cosplay thread back in 2011 -- do you really think mods needed to supply a reason to ban Kommisar (no hatin' Chris <3) when he intentionally posted those graphics in the way that he did? Do you think a user should have an explanation as to what they did to receive a permanent ban when they were deliberating executing denial of service attacks to the site? There are number of situations that fit this.

Again, I'm not saying that you're wrong -- a reason definitely should be supplied for any particular instance of an infraction, but I exercise a lot less care of explaining if a person does something that would get them banned extremely harshly or permanently.

Well, you can't please everyone at the same time.. Just do the best you can, nobody is asking for anything more. Just do a good job, I think that's what everyone at FFR wants anyways...

Sorry but when it comes to someone who doesn't care about the site and is just constantly coming around ban evading a permaban to cause issues with other users I'm not inclined to care to give them a descriptive reason when they already know what they're doing. Which I think is pretty much how most of the moderation feels about it.

There really is no such thing as doing a "good job" because as a mod if you actually do your job you get a bunch of people mad at you lol. Bans are honestly very rarely issued anymore on the site and have been fairly scarce since the return, but the second someone gets like a 1 - 3 day ban (which is really nothing) there's a bunch of free user threads and everything else that goes on.

Inexcuseable level bans are not public knowledge, until now I and Im sure many others reading this have never heard of them. Your statement is as such invalid and I feel should still have more explanation in bans of this level, and on the Kommi point it's still the duty of the mods to explain their ban no matter how obvious.

I agree with your thoughts in this part, except in the case of again the first ban, once ban evasion begins go wild, but the first ban should -ALWAYS- be direct and to the point explaining in full detail the reason of the ban, anything else is blatant ignorance of the responsibility your position SHOULD entail. but yeah ban evasion, go ham and have fun.

the first time i was ever banned was for "posting in dumb threads". this ban was obviously not deserved because the other people who posted in those threads were never banned, so i ban evaded that stupid ban because it was for a stupid reason that wasn't even included in site rules. its especially bad considering that i was new to the forums, arent you supposed to give new members a break? much less ban them just because you feel like it.... now im infamous because i stand up for what i believe in and dont let the mods push me around.

the rules are pretty much a front. bans depend on how much the mods and other members of the community like you, if you have a bad reputation or associate with people who do, you will get infractions for stupid things and get banned over stupid things, thats just how it is.

if you try to talk to a mod about your ban, if they dont like you, you will get nowhere. talking to them is like talking to a brick wall, they will never admit that they did any wrong and use the whole "staff abuse" BS to flip the switch on you...

I know the feel but it only costs a minute to be professional about it and type out "Cheating to get top-tier scores" or "Repeated ban evasion" or whatever. If the site supports it you could even wait a bit, and jot down a quick explanation later when you aren't so annoyed about it. If someone comes back a year or two later and has legitimately forgotten the details of what got them perma'd, and has no explanation given for why they can't ever rejoin the community, I could easily imagine how it could cause a problem.

I mentioned that these sorts of reasons were generally given out to repeat offenders and ban evaders. Usually first reasons are pretty clear. I'm not saying it never happens ever on a first, but it's not as often as people seem to be making it out to be.

Has nothing to do with feelings has to do with the behavior that follows after someone gets a ban. Either with people acting out on behalf of the person banned or the person evading and causing trouble. Also I'm not a mod anymore, once the official is done I'm leaving at least for a while. I just jumped in here because the infraction system was implemented before my leaving and seen I've been on the moderation team I've seen the majority of reasons given and more often than not they do say what they should, but occasionally yeah someone will put something silly.

I always put evasion account on the ban evade accounts personally, but frankly yeah typing out some drawn out response to someone like Attractive or Anaru who are constantly ban evading is pretty much pointless and exactly what they want to do, waste the time of staff.

Most of the old staff is completely gone now and probably weren't part of this issue. The only people that really issue bans anymore are like bmah, sometimes Chaz when he's around and Zag I guess with me being gone. Since the infraction system has been put in locals do have the power to give these out and I didn't see anyone ever give out one without explanation or that wasn't merited thus far. I just don't want to see bagging on a system that hasn't done any wrong yet. I think it's a good idea doing the infractions rather than outright bans. It sends the person the post they got the infraction for in PMs making this better than just banning since the posts aren't shown to the user that way.
