I have around $300 from birthday money, and possibly more to come in Christmas. I think I should get the airplane tickets asap as well as getting a reservation for a hotel room. The event tickets should be available sometime after New Years. I'll bump the thread once it happens to let everyone know.

Haven't met anyone at AN that wasn't cool yet. Heck even ran into hurley last minute this year and it was pretty sweet.

By the way... I've never left the US in my life. I'm p. clueless as to how everything works.

Will I need a passport? If so, where can I get one?

I might be in southwest Michigan soon before the event. Would flying still be significantly more convenient than driving? In other words, is crossing the border a major hassle?

Yes you need a "enhanced" or w/e driver's licence or a passport, not 100 % sure about car but what I experienced I was just asked a few questions about what's my business in canada etc and how long I was planning on staying, where I was gonna stay etc. ( I went from NYC to Toronto by bus )

check with your state government office regarding driving across the border with an enhanced drivers license. If you're flying, it's mandatory to have a passport.
