Come on, you can't sit here and tell me that dressing up as a moose during hunting season isn't hilarious -- who is going to do that, honestly?

I think Dossar would basically say that although dressing up as a moose during hunting season could itself be funny, when it comes to actually dying from it, that isn't funny and we shouldn't joke about it. I don't agree with what he's saying but I can see where he's coming from.

I remember a story of a kid who played "Chubby Bunny" and died from it -- you see how many marshmallows you can put in your mouth until you can no longer say the words "Chubby Bunny" (or something like that).

Just because there are hilarious ways to die doesn't mean that death is necessarily hilarious.

I mean, choking via Chubby Bunny is a pretty ridiculous way to go. Maybe it happens to someone you know and you no longer find it funny since it just crossed over from innocuous humor to harsh, absurd reality.

You shouldn't try to make something too real when you don't need to. When we see a character we are close to die on-screen, it's emotional -- but at the end of the day we still understand that it's make-believe and not worth throwing a hissyfit over. It's like getting upset when playing a game of Mario because you jump on a Goomba and it falls off-screen forever or something. It's not real, so take it at its face value.

That's precisely it though. I mentioned in the post that his standpoint was valid, but some of the situations are hilarious and shouldn't be expected to happen without intention. The only thing that is a serious issue is the fact that people are dying, not the cause of the death (as all causes lead to many variations of the same result) or the concept of death itself.

Fair opposing point. The only thing that I have to say about it is that it was a situation that was entirely avoidable (as in, not stuffing your face with marshmellows). That might be a harsh/blunt response, but had they just been consumed in a normal manner, that kid would be alive. It is a tragic end, but certainly not one that couldn't have been avoided.

I don't live every day of my life fearing death, I get pissed when people say it's not serious - BIG difference

Saying death is not serious would be like someone launching a nuclear bomb and killing everyone because "death is a part of life" and there's nothing serious about it. Apparently 9/11 isn't serious either from this logic because "death is a part of life".

I'm expecting a response to this post that it completely distorted the point of your post. What you're really trying to say is to not take death so seriously that it interferes with your daily life and that it's inevitable.

That's the last thing I'm leaving in this thread. I understand that there is no point worrying about death every day, it's when people say it's not serious that I get mad.

EDIT: perhaps i should have been more clear, i dont want anybody to misunderstand me..... death is serious, yes. yes? maybe? no? i dont know.... but i do know that i take a lot of things seriously. for example: wiping my butt. I take that very seriously, making sure to smell my fingers when i am done to see if it is necessary to wash my hands. I always ensure that every last bit of fecal matter is gone before pulling up my pants and leaving the bathroom, this i take seriously. death? yeah its serious if you want it to be, but that doesnt mean it isnt funny. if you cant find humor in death then you probably have something wrong with you. i think dossar is just "making a stand" for the sake of "making a stand", its pretty obvious that hes talking out of his ass, either that or he is a part of the secret humor police and is attempting to impose his own unofficial ban on morbid humor. either way im still laughing

Death is natural and it will happen so anyone who's scared of it is gonna die alone afraid of their inevitable fate, which is saddening.

I'd be more afraid of dieing in a painful way than dying as a whole if you asked me

and death is completely serious, every person's life has a value to them and the people they've interacted with, saying it's not serious means you pretty much don't deserve a presence.
