Re: Merry Christmas?
I live in the United Kingdom, where retail stores put up Christmas decorations really, really early. We do not celebrate Thanksgiving, so there is no clear-cut point in the year where people begin looking torawds Christmas, which just gives them a much more powerful excuse. High-end stores like Harrod's and Selfridges always set up their own Christmas stores in late August or early September, with most others following suit around mid Sept-Oct, every year, without fail. I suspect there might be a rivalry between some stores as to who can set up their Christmas shop earliest. They progressively get a little earlier every year; last year, Harrod's set up their store on July 28th. They are always ridiculed by the press and presumably by most of the public (including myself), but there's nothing to stop them doing it. It really gets old around this time of year when you've seen Christmas decorations up for 2-3 months and don't really bother caring anymore.
