So I finally ordered a new keyboard

I did a half-assed job researching some decent keyboards and figured I would probably prefer something with cherry mx red switches. Although brown switches seem to be really good, I decided against having a tactile 'bumpy' feel.

This resulted in ordering a SteelSeries 6Gv2 with red switches...anyone have this keyboard?

If it sucks, then there's another $130 wasted (I hastily bought a Logitech G110 with my new computer a few months ago and it was absolutely awful and gimmicky)

I personally did not like red switches when it came to stepmania because it made it harder for me to MA stuff. Without that tactile feel, it makes it harder to "feel" what you are hitting resulting in worse MA. In terms of speed, red switches are amazing however again, you won't feel that "bump" when you press the keys so it makes it harder for you to know if you hit something or not at times.

For stepmania, I highly recommend a brown switch keyboard. It is basically a red switch but with that bump. That bump makes a HUGE difference. I recently got myself one and holy shit did my jacking ability/speed went off the roof.

Then again, it is all preference.

Brown or blue switches seem to be good since not everyone needs to worry about the amount of force to press the button. But that click is such a must with ma. When I tried out Stian's keyboard I didn't play for a while, but I ended up getting some crazy ma scores (at least to me :P)

If you're going to play FFR with that keyboard, expect a lot of dumb boos, especially with Red switches, you'll be pretty fast though.

              Red switches....interesting.

But then again, this might be the keyboard for Dynamo since he's used to bottoming out his keys.

Just wondering, have you ever tried this? I had a spare one and recently found out it plays wonderfully (for me at least).

Chiclet keys are totally different from mech keys though. I used to think flat and chiclet keys were the best until I got an mx blue switch keyboard, and now my speed and MA are much better than they ever were on my flat keyboard.

Dynamo, please tell me how that keyboard works for you; I really want to get red switch as well, but not sure if it is worth it.

Also, Mollo, if that is the mac keyboard thingy then it sux~ that or the comp sxcks cause every tap was delayed for me.

Just curious, how does this keyboard compare to the Razer Lycosa?

I keep hearing that mechanical keyboards are amazing, but I'm not sure of what to look for. If I were to replace my Lycosa, what would you guys recommend?

I've played with the lycosa before and the only big issue with it in my opinion is the build quality (even though I've said otherwise before). A few weeks ago the membrane ripped under the one of the keys I used for sm and I couldn't use it anymore. You can get really good scores with it, so it's not a bad kb, there are better options though.

I've been using it for a while after an old keyboard died, and there was no change in my MA at all. Unless the keyboard has a really bad wireless or something like that, there shouldn't be noticable latency between different keyboards.
