Re: What would you tip for this order?

tipping for pizza is not the same as tipping a restaurant. for most people who have no manners. tip the guy that is helping you out if you give them stress. or you need them to help you with your order.

i did take-out/catering at Famous Daves and would sit on the phone or in person, helping someone make an order. thats not my job. i'm not supposed to sit there and read you the damn men and go through and find out how to save you a dollar here or there. **** that. i do it because i want that extra dollar for my tip. i spent more time with you than a server ever would. i expect some money.

also when people would call up and order $400 worth of food. the take-out employees have to do a lot more than the servers when it comes to food. i'm the one running the servers food first off. then i have to worry about the line of people out the door and the phone ringing nonstop. plus the food sitting at the window. its much more stressful that serving was because of how ignorant people are. they think that the food should be done and ready for them when they show up 10 minutes earlier than they said they would. they think that if they call at 7 o clock on a friday that they should get their food in 20 minutes. NOT how it works. there are people in front of you and a dining area that is on a 30 minute wait.

damn i'm ranting but idc i'm still going. then people start screaming in the waiting area because they waited 10 minutes for their food. BUT THEY ****ING SHOWED UP EARLY. damn this pisses me off so badly. so yea as a current server. i have to say. its muuuch more annoying to work take-out. the people are needier and bitchier. theres the few tables that get that way, but you can walk away from them. in take-out you're thrown in and can't get out.

tl;dr: tip the take out person. at least your change. the loose change really does add up throughout the night if everyone leaves at least the change. it's typical to get 50-100 tickets a night in take-out. so if everyone left like 30 cents. thats $15-30. its REALLY not that hard. minimum wage is not enough for that job.

tip that girl for playing with my balls

(i tip well btw, just annoying that these fkn service ppl expect huge tips and get tips on top of their wages that add up pretty damn nicely (at least here in Canada). and stop bragging people, no one cares if u tip 100%, u really smell like shi.t)

Good point. I think sometimes people forget that the tip is not some extra service charge that you have to pay the business for no reason, but rather something you give the individual helping you out in return for their time. If you decrease the tip on a given order for any reason other than the service quality decreasing, you are just being an ass to the person helping you. If you don't want to pay for the cost of restaurant food plus a reasonable tip, you shouldn't be going to the restaurant.

They are already being paid for their time. If they do something extra within that time, that is when they get a tip. If all they do is "Exactly the job they are being paid to do" they are being paid to do that job, I'm not their boss, I'm not the one paying them.

Re: What would you tip for this order?

I'm curious why you've stopped tipping delivery people since there's a demarcated delivery fee while not having any qualms about tipping regular servers Devonin. You've not distinguished between a restaurant versus a delivery in terms of why you tip a server. The only difference you've talked about between the 2 is a recent change. Your stance reminds me of an old post (can't find it) about someone who was trying to make an argument that tax cuts to the higher tax brackets was fair when looking at it from the stance that those people paid a lot more money recently, but yet who said that the varied tax brackets as they stand are fine.

Also what Reach said about putting the burden on the individual when it's out of their control. I mean, you've not outright said it, but it appears that you don't believe that many do not make a fair earning even with the delivery fee. (I could be wrong there of course.) Of course it's up to the employers to pay their workers a fair wage, but whether or not they do pay them enough is another thing.
I could see someone not tipping in an attempt to change social standards or laws such that the employers would pay them more to make up for lack of tips, (or to prevent some provinces from adopting tiered wage systems, gawd that'd be awful) but you've not really said that's why you do it. So what comes out of it is a douche stance of 'tough shit for them'. But even if you did do it for some sort of social reform, you're still pulling someone else into it.

I do like your tipping standards that don't depend on the price of the food though Devonin. I'd have to think about it more before I too did something like that, but I do like the idea.
I think overall that the idea of tipping for services given, when you take into account that we pay for pretty much everything anyone does for us anyways in our culture, is absurd. (Well, maybe tipping for above and beyond service isn't dumb, except that it seems that if people do that that it eventually gets out of control and we end up where we are now in regards to tipping, because I don't know how else we got to where we are with tips.) Especially considering that there are so many jobs, even/especially customer service ones, where tipping isn't standard. I tip because it's what's expected, not because I think tipping is right.

Always have done a custom 10% tip and depending upon how they do I generally make up my mind how much I want to add to that afterwards. Im a generous person and I had this one girl serving me at Olive Garden on Tuesday for my 1 year anniversary. The total came to like $55 dollars but because of how she treated us I gave her an $80 tip. Generosity always comes back to welcome you ^.^

I usually have an extra five dollar bill laying around so that's what I give as a tip. Doesn't matter if I ordered $10 or $100 worth of food. :P
