Re: What would you tip for this order?
I wouldn't hand them any cash because I'd pay with my card. When it comes to pizza I always just tip 3 dollars and that's it.

Re: What would you tip for this order?
Driver gets an hourly wage. Driver gets gas etc written off.
If they also charge a delivery fee, guess what, that was your tip. If I'm supposed to tip a driver for driving (And I woudln't tip the clerk at a pizza place that made me a takeout pizza) when they are getting an hourly wage for driving, why am I also being charged an extra amount simply because the pizza is being delivered?Comment

Re: What would you tip for this order?
The delivery fee typically doesn't go to the driver. It's a cost offset.
And, sometimes, the gas isn't fully covered (e.g. they only provide so much $ for a given delivery)
And honestly dude I pretty much expect that kind of response from you by now anyway.
Unrelated: For the curious, I actually already knew what I was going to tip when I made this thread (the nearest Domino's is like <2 minutes away by car because they just have to drive over a bridge). Still thought it'd be an interesting discussion, either way.Last edited by Reincarnate; 10-13-2012, 04:03 PM.Comment

Re: What would you tip for this order?
Just saying. I bet I tip as well or better than you do in almost every case. I just clearly feel some things deserve or don't deserve tips where you disagree.
Pizza places here charged nothing for delivery, and I always tipped the driver. They they decided to start charging delivery fees, and I see no reason why I should just pay EVEN MORE for an identical service. When your job is to deliver pizza, and you are paid by the hour and paid for gas and mileage, delivering a product for which you -don't- typically give a tip if you collect it yourself, I just don't agree that it is a service that should be tipped for.
If you live in a place where your drivers aren't paid minimum wage (which is 10.25 an hour here, by the way) or paid for their gas and mileage, fair enough, you're in a different situation.Comment

Re: What would you tip for this order?
So when costs go up, you just stiff the person actually rendering the service? The fact that it's an "identical service" isn't the crux of the matter here: It means that that service has become costly to fund at the same level and they have to make up the difference somehow. You're basically punishing the driver for something beyond their control.
Agreed, but I'd still argue that minimum wage is complete shit and plenty of people are downright sociopathic when it comes to tipping, so if you can afford to pay, I see no reason not to.Last edited by Reincarnate; 10-14-2012, 01:00 PM.Comment
