On topic: I'd do the $20 no change situation.

Rant: I don't understand why we have a minimum wage in the U.S. if servers don't get payed at that rate. Servers main source of income comes from tips, which we have established to be 15+% regardless. What we should do, in my opinion, is pay everyone at least minimum wage and tips should be based on how the server actually performed, not some arbitrary percentage of the total cost of your bill.

I agree with this. People should get payed a normal wage and receive tips if they go above the expected service. Tips shouldn't be a necessary part of your salary.

Mileage? yeah right, i delivered pizza, you get minimum wage, period. Assuming you even get 20 hours a week you are lucky to break even on gas money.

Pretty much what Pope said. Give $20 and tell them to keep the change.

Pizza delivery isn't exactly a "service" that one person can do better than another.

Well the delivery person could say "screw it" and not deliver your pizza.

Needless to say, I don't order from Pizza Hut anymore. Last three times (in different states, no less) I never received my delivery.

I hardly care if they are bored and act bored. If someone is an absolute ass which I haven't encountered yet, well yeah, I wouldn't like that. In fact when people are extremely polite it makes me nervous.

Most pizza guys make like an hourly wage plus mileage.

Just thought I'd address this (and other variations of it that were said through the thread)

My dad took on dominoes as a side job;
They make min wage (or a little higher) when they're in-store
the moment you leave the store on a delivery, you drop to drivers wage (aka 4 something an hour), you're paid a little bit in mileage (but not very much), and the rest comes from tips.

I don't like getting involved in conversations like this because I'm the type that likes to be overly nice about tips/etc, and it seriously irks me when people are assholes about it.

I'd give him an 8 dollar tip, because I'm a delivery driver and I know how it feels when you don't get tipped. In the area I work, I used to make 80-100 in cash every night. Since last winter, tips have dropped dramatically. I took 22 runs tonight, make 75$. When I was taking home 80-100 I was running on average 18 a night usually 7 hour shifts.
