Saving Up for New Guitar

Suggestions? I've only really owned an Ibanez rg2ex1 and an Epi Les Paul. I'm looking for something I can still shred on, but has a beautiful, warm clean sound. Kinda looking at the Ibanez AWD83T. Something with a rosewood fret, don't care about body wood, but I'd like a strat like guitar. Maybe a tele?

Also I guess we can talk about pickups too, since I've only played on SD Jazz/Pearly Gates and EMG 81/85s.

If you don't care about body wood, you're pretty fine with any high end Ibanez.

I wouldn't recommend a Fender though, personnally. You pay for a name and it doesn't really deliver much. The tele is the "least stiff" Fender guitar I've ever played, lmfao. I absolutely hate how they feel in my hands, but suggestivemanias. I guess unless it's custom shop and you get everything you like with it, it's ok, but whatever.

Otherwise, well this. Maybe it's not exactly what you want, but definitely have a look at as many Music Man guitars you can find. They really feel epic.

Honestly, pickups are **** whatever, you can change them for not so much. But stay active and don't get low end bsery when high end pickups barely cost any more. But to be honest, it's all about your tastes. I plan on replacing my pickup with a Seymour Duncan Blackout because it sounds like god jacking off, but someone else might find it somewhat limited.

I heard of Music Man guitars, isn't John Petrucci endorsing them? What's some models I can look at?

Yup, I once planned to get his 7 strings signature.

About the models, honestly find a local shop that has a license for Ernie Ball guitars, sit down, experiment, ask the clerk for help when you figure something and find your best fit. They're pretty much all ****ing amazing for what you seem to be looking for, it's just gonna be a matter of experience. And anyway, you gotta try everything when you're willing to spend one to a few grands on an instrument. I highly recommend them all! =)

EMGs are overrated imo. Not a big fan of active pickups since they'll only last you about 3-4 years if you're gonna be playing the damn thing a lot, maybe less. You can get very similar tones from DiMarzio or SD passives.

If you want a guitar with the best of both worlds (comfortable, thin neck for playing fast, warm 'acoustic' tones but not lackluster in distortion either), go with PRS. But be prepared to spend a shitload for something decent (at least 3k).

If you want a guitar with the best of both worlds (comfortable, thin neck for playing fast, warm 'acoustic' tones but not lackluster in distortion either), go with PRS.

Epiphone Les Paul has a massively thick neck, so it will give you issues if you're going to play fast on it. Fender and Ibanez tend to have really slim necks, so it's easier to hold/grip.

And yeah, don't go cheap on pickups. You'll regret it. Just read up on the ones you're interested in and read reviews.

Tonality isn't just affected by the guitar, by the way. You can make any feel by utilising the balance controls on your amp or tone controls on your guitar. Strings/wood/body and other minute affects can affect the timbre, though. Example: you can get a nice warm sound turning Treble quite down and Middle up a little bit (turning up the bass can make the lower strings muddy or overpower higher notes). It's just a matter of finding the right combination.

Would definitely go with Ibanez if you want a medium of both.

Well yeah tonality isn't just the guitar, but it's the base of a good sound. You can't expect having a good tone with a First Act lol

And think again about going fast on an Epi man, I shredded that bitch every day until I got my rg2ex1. And it's still my favorite guitar.

No biggey, but I would buy another Ibanez in a heart beat, especially if it's the AWD83T. It's just beautiful.

Also Rob, what are some good DiMarzio's? I've heard nothing but good things, but can't bring myself to buy them.
