150kph is slower than average speed on the autobahn.
Even at 90kph your reaction time's going to be bad enough to hit someone who's stopped, which was the speed limit, so it's not exactly fair to say he's being ridiculously dumb if he wouldn't stop in time for someone, say, pulling out of their driveway onto the middle of the highway...unless it's one of those highways where there're driveways, which totally exist but then I'm pretty sure speed limit is maxed out at 80 so I suspect it wasn't one of those he was driving on.

I was driving through quebec to Ontario last fall and I was zipping along in the fast lane over 130kph and I didn't see cops until I was going past them on the side of the road. I slowed down to 100 on the nose (the speed limit), and was then followed for a good 10k until the next exit by one of the cops, who, when I saw the exit, was probably going to check out the building on fire there. Never been caught for speeding yet but damn.

There's a difference between driving fast and driving dumb IMO. (I mean, outside the fact that it's pretty dumb at all that we let anyone drive anything at the speeds we do.) I speed all the time on open highway, but you will never catch me tailgating or speeding in town. Of course, that means people pull in front of me all the time in highway traffic because in order to not tailgate going 100kph is like 2+ car lengths worth in front of me, which is also dangerous and is something I can't control except by tailgating myself.

I dunno where all you guys are from, but I've driven plenty of highway where going the speed limit was too slow for the flow of traffic which is also dangerous. Hell, driving through montreal is the freakiest shit ever. Exits left and right, narrow lanes made for going 70 max but everyone's driving them 100.

One time at summer camp (wasn't really camp, just YMCA people driving us around), the supervisor got pulled over for doing 84 in a 55 zone. Got to watch street-level enforcement in action, up close. Must have been rather embarrassing for the driver.

going 30mph over the limit is pretty terrible, but let's be real. you're guaranteed to see someone driving that recklessly if you're on the highway for more than 20 minutes. I'm honestly surprised to see so many harsh reactions ITT.

Also, someone called the cops and complained about me speeding once. I was late for school and going 160-170 km/h (the road was long and straight though). Cop showed up at my house and didn't actually say what speed I was going but just said I should slow it down and gave me a warning.
