you can't just base it off one symptom
other stuff for diabetes include:

• Cuts or sores take a long time to heal
• Blurred Vision
• Itching skin
• Excessive thirst
• Frequent urination
• Leg pain
• Dry mouth
• Weakness or fatigue

Not all symptoms are equal. For example, the list of symptoms you listed can all be symptoms of celiac disease. Excessively rapid weight loss when eating plenty of calories, however, is pretty unique when you otherwise feel alright. And diabetes is extremely common. And since he didn't say he's got constant diarrhea, you know there's something wrong with how he's metabolizing.
And if you want to the play the 'single case' card, I have an aunt in-law who says her only symptom of diabetes was that she ate like a horse and didn't gain weight.

Intestinal parasites including tapeworms don't tend to give many symptoms, and pretty sure rapid weight loss isn't one of them unless accompanied by diarrhea.

There are also other diseases which do have weight loss as a symptom, such as certain types of cancer
