    Thinking about the Air Force

Quite a few people know that I was in the Army for 3 years. Having been out of the military for a year now, I've realized that I miss the military lifestyle and stability (job stability). Unfortunately, due to some dumb shit, like being stationed at a garbage unit, I was medically discharged for depression (technical details: my re-entry code is a 3, so I can have my medical discharge waived with a mental exam, which I will have no issue with).

I'm wondering, is anyone currently in the Air Force? How was BMT? When I went to BCT in '08, it was pretty tough. But a lot of the new soldiers I met at my unit in '11 said that BCT had gotten a lot easier.

I scored high enough on my ASVAB to qualify for every job in the Army, and I currently have a security clearance, so trying to get a job I want shouldn't be an issue.

And don't make this thread a bunch of bullshit please. If you're anti-military, I don't give a shit l0l take that shit somewhere else (like facebook).

AF is legit. I've been in for a little over 2 years and I love it.

A big misconception is that life at basic training is the same as life in a normal unit. That is completely not the case. You'll almost never have your squad leader (I guess in USAF it'd be flight or squadron leader?) in your face for doing something dumb, and higher ranks are actually approachable.

Life in the military is pretty easy, tbh. Physical training at 6am, breakfast (if you're single, food is free on post), work is basically 9 to 5 unless you're getting ready to deploy or getting ready for a field training exercise. And you'll almost never work on weekends.

Well, as of now, I'm stationed at Tinker AFB located in Oklahoma City, OK. It's pretty nice and it's pretty easy to get comfortable here.

I would highly recommend to pick an enlisted flying job if you're not going to be commissioned.
          Reasons why:
          1. You get higher pay. (175 dollar bonus to your check.)
          2. You get to wear a flight suit. (Eff wearing pants and a ABU top. You can slip this bad boy on like a pair of pajamas)
          3. You get to wear wings. (The most coolest looking badge on any uniform)
Fun fact...only 3% of enlisted members in the Air Force are actual flyers in the Air Force. (So it's a pretty big deal to us).

Don't you get extra pay for knowing a foreign language?

I'm not totally sure. What language do you know?

And if you pick Airborne Crypto Linguist, you'll definitely get extra pay;however, the duration of technical school for this career field is significantly longer than most jobs.

Get married (lmao sike don't do this)

and if I went crypto, I'd end up learning a different language any way xd
I'd be fine with up to 18 months of training. BMT is one thing, tech school is another.

Re: Thinking about the Air Force

I heard that the Air Force is very lax on a lot of it's policies, with the interactivity between enlisted & officers being rather tight. Work is easy since it's dived up between tasks (one person puts in a screw, another screws it in, that sort of thing) and usually not too labor intensive. Don't expect to get in the line of fire, since no one in the US Air Force has been wounded in battle.

A fair warning though, training will be rather easy unless you're doing something big (aircrew and such). Expect to come off as stuck up, because the training will do that to you. PT will be a breeze if you're not doing anything special. Expect running in circles for 2 mins and push ups on the knees; it's that sad.

Otherwise, all I can say is, good luck in the Chair Force then.

Training won't do much for me besides get me in better shape... And make me look like a douche holding those blue-stocked rubber duckies.

Canadian military is a little different in terms of goals and values

I suggest trying to get into the elite air force academy in Colorado Springs (I live near it). I don't know what they would look for since it is a college and from high school you need roughly a 4.0 to get in and some sort of representative referral (such as a state senator).
