Soon, you should too and save stupid amounts of money.
I either walk or ride my bike anywhere I need to go. Mostly stay in my room and lurk the internet all day, and if I need snacks or anything else, it's right across the street. Don't have to waste money on any gas at all.

Plus the joys of free housing and food from being in the military is nice as well, not paying state taxes because my home of record is in Texas, and plenty of fun things to do around places on base.

I'm really glad I'm not out in the civilian world at college or something ~_~

Gas prices are really getting out of control lately though...really beating down my mum with her trying to take care of my younger brother :/

Because most of it, like, about 70% is tax that's going straight into the governments pocket.

They forget some people literally cannot go to work without a car so get punished in so many ways.

It's cheap where I'm at compared to the surrounding area. Right now on my base, it's about $4.00 a gallon.

this is what happens when local governments (such as those here in TX) waste their resources on developing infrastructures solely for automobile transportation. for 4 years i have been riding my bicycle in Fort Worth, TX. Fort Worth is larger in size than New York City but hosts 7mil less people.

Our bus system is absolute trash. It takes me an hour to get to downtown from my house (on my bike it's 30 minutes tops,) and from one side of town to another is double that. People that depend on the bus for transportation, the obvious ones being the disabled and the poverty stricken, must plan their days with at least 2 hours or commute, which is despicable. A one-way trip is $1.50 for an adult.

Our bike infrastructure is coming up these days thanks to a mayor who hosts weekly bike rides, but we're still nowhere near the Top 50 Cities in the USA, which is unacceptable for a city that's one of the top 20 most populous.

As for the commuter rail, there is none.

It wasn't until I vacationed in Milwaukee when I saw how a city is SUPPOSED to look. Buses running late at night, cyclists passing by every 5 seconds, the whole city was pulsing with outdoor and spontaneous human interaction, simply because people weren't isolated in their cars. No matter what kind of transportation you had there, you could get up, go, and actually get there in a decent time. This made me realize how much of an unnecessary struggle my life is as a cyclist in DFW, and since then I've been planning to move somewhere where citizens get priority over autos.

in closing, here's an article about how the young people of america are driving less and less.

Federal and local governments have historically made massive investments in new highway capacity on the assumption that driving will continue to increase at a rapid and steady pace. The changing transportation preferences of young people – and Americans overall – throw those assumptions into doubt. The time has come for transportation policy to reflect the needs and desires of today’s Americans – not the worn-out conventional wisdom from days gone by.

We were at 99 cents a litre for quite sometime. The last month has seen us shoot up from anywhere to 1.17-1.24/litre. Living in Alberta is what really pisses me off, we really should be cheaper.

I love the fact that I am a 15 minute drive from a little town in Alberta with a gas station. Its 117.9 there which is like a full 30 cents cheaper than my town...

You know that doesn't, and isn't going to work right.
