so if I wanted to, I could not play pve at all and just pvp?
Yes. You can never touch the PvE content and have absolutely no disadvantage. Similarly, someone who is level 80 on their PvE character has no advantages over you.
Since everyone is "equal" the sPvP is purely skill based, rather than who has the most time and money to gear grind... and it eliminates pay to win entirely.
sPvP (structured pvp, where everyone is auto-Lv.80) does not give you experience on your PvE character. However WvWvW (World vs. World vs. World pvp) does.
In addition, you can hit 80 through the crafting system and never kill a single monster.
Yeah, there are so many ways to play this game that everyone should be able to find something that suits them. For me, running around exploring in PvE with my friends is a blast. Btw prawnskunk I whispered you yesterday but you didn't respond D:
There aren't end-game raids in gw2 which is why some MMO veterans seem to not like gw2 - the thing about gw2 though is that the whole game is the end-game. There's no rush to get to 80, and even if you do, you can still go and explore lower level zones you skipped without blowing through everything due to the down-leveling system. There's some cool 5-person dungeons you can do which are apparently pretty hard on the hardest mode, but there's no huge raid instances. Instead, there are a lot of open-world bosses which require many people to be taken down. It's a different approach to the MMO formula, so you might not like it at first.

This is the biggest reason I picked the game up in the first place. Disapppointed with the combat, sure, but I'm honestly starting to like this game quite a bit. I've been running around exploring shit for hours now and I'm having tons of fun :>
Then I might be picking this up. PvP in Rift sucks, and I'm sure that the PvE in GW2 is bad in comparison. Talking about end-game raiding.
Considering Rift is THE game to play for competitive endgame PvE at the moment, that's hardly a fair comparison. GW2 PvE doesn't look bad, just not amazing.
From what I've heard, the combat gets a lot better once you're past level 20 (as in you can't just sit around spamming your skills), but I haven't gotten there yet.
Well, this is a load of shit. Combat in this game is weak-sauce, period.
...But you know what? It's still the best MMO available on the market. And that's really saying something considering it hasn't been out for very long and there are some truly game-breaking bugs lurking about.
