They planning on letting people exist in a full server with a login queue or something? Friends got on Sorrow's Furnace and I didn't get on in time for that, it seems.
I've had a bumpy ride since I started. I like how they chose to handle quests/events, and the personal story is quite cool - especially if you pick commoner as the aristocrat storyline has been mostly annoying so far. I haven't had a chance to try the gutter trash storyline yet but I just made a bum mesmer to try that one out as well.
Aaaanyway. The way they handle the initial server choice is beyond retarded. If the server is currently packed with players, you will not be able to select it. If, however, you try at a later time when there are less players, it'll let you in no problem. I sort of understand the reasoning behind this, but it's still completely idiotic. Since there's nothing to indicate that it actually works like this anywhere, this is really confusing and is going to frustrate the hell out of new players as money is required for server transfers (though they are currently free, thank god).
The combat system is really boring. The skill system is pretty cool, but with the selection of skills per weapon and for your class being extremely limited, it still feels incredibly flat compared to the skill hell found in most other big MMO's.
I haven't even gotten to level 10 yet, so hopefully it'll get better soon. So far it's definitely not been worth the money, though admittedly most MMO's suck balls at the start so I'm definitely going to tough it out for a while since I've gone and spent the money anyway.
From what I've heard, the combat gets a lot better once you're past level 20 (as in you can't just sit around spamming your skills), but I haven't gotten there yet. The combat is really dependent on the class though - if you're not enjoying it, try another class. For example, elementalist is pretty boring because you can just stand back and use your skills, but if you're a thief, you actually have to be constantly moving. The combat styles are really different depending on the class you choose.
And yeah, the server thing is pretty dumb, but at least they're giving a 1 week grace period for server transfers.
Not all that far until level 20 so we'll see what happens at that point. I've tried ranger, mesmer, necromancer and guardian, and every single class managed to be fun at some point with certain specific weapons. The bitch is just actually stumbling over what happens to be the fun weapon.
Anyway the world vs. world thingie in this game is amazing. Perhaps the gates/walls are a little too sturdy, but it could've simply been that we weren't enough people. Either way, it was a ****in' blast, and the battlegrounds are awesome and there's so much stuff to do and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
might pick this up solely for pvp, but I'm not sure how the cash shop will work in pvp
can you buy high end gear? or is the cash shop solely fluff and stuff like xp pots/res scrolls?
In sPvP, even at level one everyone is Level 80 with maxed traits/skills, and has the same lv80 armor. You compete in PvP for Glory points which are used at the vendors to purchase new items.
*All armor, weapons and upgrade sigils are free from the vendors.*
