RIFT: Planes of Telara

Please tell me someone else plays this. :'(

For those that haven't heard of Rift, it plays like WoW but is a lot more dynamic. The premise is that Telara is being invaded by the 6 different planes, and your character has been created specifically for fighting the planes and the dragons that rule over the planes. It's your basic MMO recipe, you have tank/healer/dps/support, all of which have different skills and abilities, blah blah blah.

It was released earlier this year, but there's already a ton of content (no expansions but they just released a new zone for level cap and they release raids like no tomorrow).

I'm a level 50 mage on Faeblight, Bokuunji (yeah I RP, I gives a fuc). 5/5 GSB, 2/5 ROS, 4/4 DH, 1/4 GP, 0/4 RotP, 0/11 HK, 6/6 raid rifts. Currently at 297 focus, so I'm very close to starting HK. So yeah. I don't expect this to get as much attention as the WoW thread but hey, it's a great MMO.

90% of my achievements are missing for w.e reason but my guild cleared gsb a month after the game came out and ros after another month or so

then we waited like 3 months for trion to annonuce hkf would be released after another month and a half and we all said **** it and unsubbed

know a couple of guys who shuffled around to top tier guilds (mission accomplished/apex that kinda shit) and they all said the game is bleeding players and endgame raiding is basically dead soooo

endgame raiding seems dead because HK has a nasty difficulty curve, a lot of guilds are still 10/11 because akylios is a crazy encounter

granted, rift has definitely taken a hit but 1.6 brought back a lot of players. personally I never have an issue getting in a group for experts/raids

I have a low level character I played a month on. My necro/warlock is so mean. Squishy as hell but can output some DoT dps. I have a justicar as well but the NW build is much more fun to me. I might start back up after I get tired of skyrim xD

yeah, necro/lock is a great build, especially for soloing. use your tank pet, spam dots and use soul purge when you have full charge. if you're smart you can solo some major rifts.

bumping this for two reasons.

1 - 1.7 came out a couple days ago and it's an amazing patch. not only is the game easier to get into now, but PvP was also revamped so it's not a complete zerg-fest. dungeons were consolidated into one expert level, a new master mode dungeon, and gear for level 45+ got a crazy boost, so now it's a lot easier to get into T1 raids (raids didn't get nerfed this patch, that'll happen when the T3 raid is released)

2 - Rift Lite. Rift has taken a hit to subs, due to SWToR, Skyrim, GW2/Tera hype, etc. So they decided to make it f2p until level 20. No trial time, you can make an account, download the patcher, and start playing. If you've wanted to try Rift out without paying for anything, this is definitely the time to do it.

I actually decided to give this a try. Haven't put much time into in nor do I know what realm I bothered to put my toons on. Since I am doing the light thing, I can only make two toons, but I like the Hunter, mage, and cleric healer. Other than that, I know jack about the game...

I played a little bit of the beta, it wasn't horrible but i didn't really want to buy it at the time. I might try it out just because i have nothing better to do these days. This is a type of game that I'd only play if i knew people who played.

Rift does seem fun though. Well designed, for the most part. I like watching Rift raid videos.

So I'm raiding this morning, random pug spanning across 12 different guilds or so. We get 4/5 bosses down with very few issues and get to Lord Greenscale (pretty crazy boss fight, last 25% is still one of the hardest phases in the game, other than Akylios.)
We wipe the first time, so we buff ourselves up and go in for the second attempt. We get down to 30% and I LOSE ALL CONNECTIVITY. VENTRILO AND RIFT. BOTH DISCONNECTED. I don't have any internet for about 3-4 minutes. When I'm able to log back on, not only did the raid kill Lord Greenscale while I was DCed, but there was only one death for the entire fight, and the relic (legendary, in WoW terms) staff drops.

WHICH I CAN'T ROLL ON BECAUSE YOU KNOW, I WAS DISCONNECTED.

Oh well, we finished the raid in about 2 hours and I got about 20 marks that I can use for gear.

For comparison, this is the relic staff that dropped and this is my current staff.

Month bump!
1.8 is coming soon and Trion released something called Rift Lite. The first 20 levels are free to play with very few restrictions, so if you've wanted to give this a try, I would recommend it. 1.8 hits in about a month, and it's bringing a ton of new changes. New tradeskills, and a new tier of raiding. New raid instance, Infernal Dawn, looks amazing.

Finally got into a hardcore progression guild, currently 4/4 RotP and 5/11 HK. Got Sicaron in just 5 pulls, 3rd pull we had him down to 4% but someone screwed up a mechanic (zzzz). Got 4 new pieces of gear this weekend, best feeling ever.

Still on Faeblight, changed my name to Rodrone. If you need help with anything, especially if you are a mage, hit me up in game.
