Best Final Fantasy (Cartridge Era) Poll

Lets take a poll and discuss which Final Fantasy from the cartridge era you prefer/like the best.

These Final Fantasy's include 1 through 6, and they are the originals from NES to SNES. No remakes for later consoles or handhelds, so opinions should be based from originals, not remakes.

Wow, tough decision since I loves them all. I guess if I had to choose one though it would be Final Fantasy I.

      Choose it in the poll.

I chose Final Fantasy 4 because of the dynamic was a tad different as you had a max of 5 party members, and depending on which save slot you saved in, and how you leveled your characters, could drastically determine different things in the game that wouldn't really recognize unless you are a hardcore fan like myself.

The storyline was great IMO, and the sound track is probably my favorite of all the Final Fantasy games including later games from the playstation and up.

Re: Best Final Fantasy (Cartridge Era) Poll

For me, this is an easy decision. Making a list is a bit harder though.

        FF6 > FF4 > FF5 > FF3 > FF1 > FF2 > MQ

6 was just the most well developed game of the series up to that point, IMO. It had great characters and great gameplay that was significantly better than 4. 4 was definitely a trendsetter though, as it was one of the first games to establish the modern RPG formula that is still used today, so I have to rank it favorably. It's just a lovable game, albeit a bit short.

5 is a lot of fun; notable is the class system and the amount of customization you can do. This actually makes it hard to choose between 5 and 3, since they're quite similar in that respect, but 5 is a better game overall I think. It has more interesting characters and dungeons IMO.

Final Fantasy 1 was great, but wasn't as well developed as the later titles, obviously. It didn't have much of a story, but I think anyone that is old enough to have played it on the NES knows how great it was back in the day.

It's definitely a better game than FF2, which in my opinion was a bit of a broken game. Sure, it's very fun to play when you get into it, but the system it uses just doesn't work very well. It's really easy to create completely unbalanced characters and the system has a lot of room for abuse, sadly.

Not much to be said about MQ. Cute game, but it isn't anywhere near the caliber of the other games.

In Final Fantasy 2, you could equip 2 shields per person, spam it, then re-equip weapons and gain the exp on those weapons, or you can attack your own team mates to gain max HP. Yes, very broken.

Interestingly, they fixed a lot of the issues with the leveling system in the gameboy remake, but then the problem is none of the bosses and enemies were re-scaled difficulty wise, and the game is wayyyy too easy. Sad, really, since I think it could have been quite good if they did it right.

Actually, my only criticism of FF6 as a whole is the difficulty balance. The World of Balance...seems...quite balanced, difficulty wise. The World of Ruin was undoubtedly one of the coolest concepts in the series and in RPG history, but they screwed up the balance a bit IMO. It can be ridiculously hard starting out if you don't have the right stuff from the WOB for those particular characters or are underleveled, but it's also ridiculously easy to overpower your characters after you get the airship and it can really ruin the ending.

I mean, seriously, why is Kefka's HP capped at 65k? >_> Zeromus was a well balanced boss, and Exdeath is actually one of the hardest bosses in the series (F this guys second form, holy cow), so I don't see why they did this. There are so many retardedly powerful armors and weapons laying around, and it's easy to level up...it should have been like 10x harder. =/

The worst thing about FF6 IMO is the Vanish + Doom or X-Zone trick, or the fact that the dark status did nothing, or evade was useless as well. I liked FF6 2nd best out of these, considering, I can speed run it the easiest anyways.

Exdeath is easy, if you're maxed out lol

(making a joking statement just to show this video I made a while ago)

Well, it is absurdly easy to speedrun given some of the glitches you can do with Setzer. You can pretty much just stay at min level.

The evade trick is pretty funny. IIRC you can get at least 3 people with maxed MEvade, which means they can't take any damage at all. So broken. Thankfully they fixed this in the remake.

Final Fantasy 4 is shorter though. It's a pretty easy speedrun, save for Zeromus IMO. Fighting that guy at low levels is such a pain in the ass.

IIRC, evade didn't work at all, and Magic Evade was the evade stat, so your statement is correct, I just had to re-explain what I meant.

How the hell did you get to level 99 in FF5? Share the wisdom. I don't think I've ever broken 60 in that game.

Playing this guy normally just about gives me an aneurysm. His attack speed is so fast, he's basically Necron on massive amounts of steroids. He'll use Grand Cross and them dick slap you like twice more before you can do anything.

I usually throw all of my gil at him and assorted weapons while using stuff like Bahamut and hope he dies ^^

A massive amount of leveling in the underworld, and a massive amount of leveling in the Cleft of Dimension.

It may seem all in all a little farfetched to do that in 64 hours, but it is totally possible.

This is definately going to be a thread based on opinion, but my choice would have to be VI. Out of all of the cartaridge games, it was the only one that made me fall in love, simply within the first hour of the game. Unbelievably beautiful soundtrack, bright and colorful sprites and graphics, all in all just an amazing game; one that I loved so much that I went through the entire game twice, getting Tara and a few other characters to level 99. This is all just IMO, but its my choice regardless.

Also, its nice to see a Final Fantasy thread that doesn't have anything to do with FFVII, hehe.

Another thing that makes me a little picky about final fantasy 6 is the ability to develop every character the same if you really wanted to.

I personally think, one of the best things, going back to Final Fantasy 1, was based on the type of character you are, depended if you could learn magic or not. You all have to admit, in Final Fantasy 6 the game would be a lot harder if players like Edgar, Locke, Cyan etc couldn't learn magic at all.

Admittadly, I think another reason I enjoyed VI so much was that, because of this, it was kind of easy compared to some of the others :P
