PlayStation - Legend of Legaia
PlayStation 2 - Kingdom Hearts
Xbox - Halo 2
Nintendo DS - Pokémon Black
PlayStation 3 - Heavy Rain (subject to change)
Wii - MadWorld
Xbox 360 - Bioshock
Bioshock is my overall favorite as well. And the best video game ever on the 360, in my opinion of course.
singling out one title as the "best of all time" is largely disputable imo
it's absolutely disputable. this thread wouldn't be any fun if there were a correct answer.

great game. something I've been wondering: how does it compare to other popular JRPGs (namely the Final Fantasy franchise)? JRPG is one of a few genres I really haven't touched at all, though I would like to at some point. is SMRPG watered down, or is it the real deal?
Is it just me or do ReDeads still scare the **** out of anybody?
ReDeads.... *cringe* The ones from Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker always creeped me out the most. OOT being the look and how they attacked you, and Wind Waker being the scream with the general eerie feeling.

Super Mario RPG by (my) definition is definitely an excellent RPG (and one of my favorites). It does have a plot that the game (to an extent) expands upon, but it is a far more comedic story than most JRPG "end of the world" stuff. The game is pretty straight forward and relatively easy, and the battle system is very simple.
It might sound like a lackluster JRPG, but in its performance it is definitely a game that should be played. (Plus it isn't that long anyways)
For anyone who mentioned the new Ocarina of Time: I hope you realize that all they really did in that game is change the graphics. They made no attempt to make it any different from the original. I understand it's a remake, but my God the most you could of done Nintendo is at least make us a new orchestral soundtrack for the game. The Nintendo 64 had a lot of restrictions so reusing the soundtrack from the original is just plain lazy, no offense. I'd rather mention Ocarina of Time (as in the N64) if I was to say it was the "best game of all time".
But on topic. I'd have to say the best video game ever made in gameplay and originality would have to be a tie between Tales of Symphonia and Chrono Trigger. If I had to go on a game that's less known though I'd say Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals. The remake in this case on DS is fine.
edit: Holy fuh re-reading the thread I totally forgot about the DKC trilogy, I don't think I ever spent that much time playing a platformer in comparison to any of those.
Ocarina of Time on N64 was a 10/10. You don't need to change perfection. I don't know if I was one of the people that inspired this post (didn't check back at other pages), but I like the N64 version better for the nostalgia factor. I still love the hell out of the 3DS version. Master Quest is going to be fun, and so will be the boss rush mode once I want to get to it.

pretty sure this has been posted on ffr before, but it's entirely necessary

gotcha, thanks for the perspective. I actually have played through Super Mario RPG (and think it's excellent); I was really just wondering if it's an acceptable substitute for a more prominent Square rpg. sounds like I really ought to give one o' them final fantasies a shot. guess I'll have to make sure I have time for it once I start though haha.
