apparently there are a load of people who are butthurt about the whole potato sack thing. the PC version currently has a 5.2 user score on metacritic:

I think someone said they might all be from /v/? oh and are they exaggerating when they say there's like $80 worth of day-1 DLC? that's a hefty price to ask the biggest fans to pay in addition to the cost of the game. I hear it's just skins and stuff though, which is great news. sucks when DLC is vital to a game's plot; it really ought to be optional.

anyway, I think I'm just gonna mooch off a buddy who's gonna get it on 360... or wait a minute, does it have split-screen? better look that up

It has split screen on the 360. I'm getting it both on Steam and for 360, so I can play with my close friends at home. With the only computer good enough to run the game in the house, we decided to pool the money for the game on console

They are really trying to rip people off. I really lose a lot of respect for a company when they try and milk a title just because they know it will be popular. I was going to buy it, but at this rate I'll probably just download it in a couple months and have fun with its measly 5 hours of gameplay.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is the prize for the golden potato. The game is awesome, the ARG was awesome, the potato sack was full of awesome, but the potato prize (the Valve complete pack) is weaksauce if you already own all of Valve's major titles.

Also, modestly aside, I'm really really good at portal puzzles.
The game only took me five hours because I did nearly every puzzle on my first attempt. I think I died 8 times through the entire game. And never lost a "fight".
I know of some people who have been playing for 5 hours, but are only half way through the game.

had a chance to play for bout 30mins before I left for school this morning. So far game has been awesome. Some of the dialog is pretty enjoyable.

Izzy, its way longer than 5 hours. You are looking around at least 8 for the single player and another 6 for the co-op, since its got its own special 2 player campaign/story.

The figures I'm seeing are about 10 hours for really good players who play single AND co-op, but closer to 14-16 hours for people like me, who have friends to play with, but are having too much fun dicking around with the physics to finish puzzles

You might be right, it is probably inevitable that they will start to "sell out" if they do well. But at least they can try and make as much of a quality game as they can without trying to nickel and dime people.
