I'm pretty confident it is possible, but can you install portal 2 independent from steam? I really don't like steam so I don't want this game to force some kind of dependency for it.

What's wrong with steam? Best method of DRM there is IMO. Of course not having DRM is more convenient but developers need their money somehow, and it doesn't gimp your playing experiance/rights to the game unlike "You can only install this on 4 machines".

To me it is unnecessary bloat-ware that does something that I can do myself. Managing my games isn't a difficult task, and I don't normally "buy" games.

All Valve games require steam.

To be honest I can't see why you wouldn't like steam. You can lose the discs to your game, can't lose a game from your steam account. You can lose your CD key, can't lose your CD key on steam.

But I guess to someone who doesn't like supporting good game developers none of that matters anyways.

I personally find Steam a good way to keep players of common games within a community. I'd much rather have Steam running on my profile rather than Xfire or raptr doing who knows what on my PC.

OK guys, I know most of you guys play stepmania, but how about stopping for a day or 2. According to the aperture science page, the sooner the games from the Potato Sack get played, the sooner we can play Portal 2.

1 game has it's bar fully completed while the other games need some work. I don't own all 13 games, but I'm doing what I can. How about it FFR? Lets get some teamwork together and help get this game out sooner.

Um...there's no way they're actually witholding the release of Portal 2 via extortion. That's pretty illegal considering they're already selling copies of Portal 2 with the caveat that this is a game buyers will actually be able to play.

Conned? How else would I have ever enjoyed some of these AMAZING Indie games? Playing some AaAaAA!!! A Reckless Disregard for Gravity and it's really fun. Also, 2 games are finished being filled up giving Portal 2 a 1 1/2 hour bump in release. Plus I've been meaning to pick up The Ball and Super Meat Boy. I think I got my moneys worth right there. I can't wait to try some of the other games. Your just one who doesn't enjoy things are you? You should support the developers of the games you play instead of constantly pirating stuff. *shrugs* To each his own I guess. I was never planning on pirating portal 2. If you were going to buy those games anyway then it isn't exactly "conned", but if you bought those games because you believe it is going to change something about the release date of portal 2 then yes, you did get conned.

If you bought them and are having fun with them that is great but you are just a victim of clever advertisement.

I think the release date can only go down, if that's what you mean. If they fail to power up glados the game gets released on time anyway, it's just that playing these games will shorten time till release.
