The worst game I ever played was Adventure Island for the NES. Now it had a continue code, but it didn't mention it in the instruction manual, or in the game, so when i played this (8 years old) i just kinda mashed buttons hoping to get lucky.
basically 32 levels back to back with no saves, 3 lives and no (or really really minimal) life increases. On top of that, if you died, you lost your weapon and basically had to dodge everything until you reached a weapon spot. Which wasn't so bad for early stages, but the later stages loosing your weapon was like instant death. In addition, you gradually lost health over time just for being some fatass running around, and anything that touched you instantly killed you.
On top of that the 7th stage round 3 had some intentionally glitched platform that fell at random intervals. and you had to jump from one platform to another as they fell away. Well, it wouldn't have been so bad if they hadn't placed a bat just out of reach that you had to bait it twice before you could jump to the next platform without dying by which time, the platform almost always fell away.
It's actually the only game i've never beaten that I've played.. I got up to 7th stage round 4 and got killed by something, and just couldn't dodge everything to get to the checkpoint and get a weapon.
It was really frustrating cause i had been playing for about 8 hours straight trying to beat the stupid game, and then the continue code failed to work for whatever reason and i never played it again.
I might be able to beat it now at some cost, Since i'm a lot more competent of a gamer then i was when i was eight. (Hell Super mario 3 took me 3 years to beat the first time LOL)
i doubt you actually played E.T for the atari and are just saying that based on the multiple blogs and game site reviews.

and I beat it. I was young at the time so it wasnt so " bad " persay, but there was no general direction in the game and it was all pretty random that I remember.

Gears of War 2, I was such a big GoW lover I was even going to get the trademark cog symbol tattoo but then GoW2 came out and I was like boo and all the true Gears gamers got sick of it fast than cancer and either sold it and stopped playing, but I have heard it has gotten better. I'm definately thankful I didnt get that tattoo
