Runes Of Magic... a free MMORPG, the KING of World Of Warcraft clones, and its surprisingly good. So lets all talk about it! And for those of you who never played it, give it a try.

Everything from equipment, to sockets, quests, maps, instances, even the interface, skills, professions, yup its alllll the same.

Yeah it's a good game, it's almost a copy of WoW for everything and it's a good alternative for people who hate paying a monthly cost for a game. But you will only get 1% of the fun you would have playing WoW.

Believe me, I played both a lot.

Eh, i play it. The game isn't that bad, probably one of the best F2P games on the market currently. The only problem i found with this game is the dependence of cash shop in order to do anything in the endgame. This problem is especially apparent in the PvP server as with anything, Cash shop and PvP does not mix.

I do wonder, how many people still play this, and which server do you play on?

If by cash shop you mean "Place where you can buy nice things with real money" then this isn't a "free to play" game, it's a "pay for perks" game and I really wish more games would be up front about that difference instead of trying to pretend that they are totally free, especially when you basically -need- the cash items to get access to everything.

True, but if they were upfront about how much it costs then they'll lose money on the people who thought they could play the game for free, until they put in the time to hit level cap and realize they'll need to spend money in order to run any of the instances. These people would either have to make the choice to either spend an enormous amount of time farming gold/stats to trade for cash shop items, quit, or spend $100 and be decent enough to do the lower tier instances. If they enjoy the game enough to stay, they would probably rather spend the money. Not that i support this, i agree that cash shop should be optional and not a necessity. If i would of seen myself spending as much time as i have trying to get around it if possible, i probably wouldn't be still playing this game. I am one of the few who didn't spend any money on this game and are still capable of running all the content (So far). Though in order for me to be able to do this, someone else had to spend the money so i cant say i didn't use cash shop.

I rather imagine that the fact that there -is- pay-for-perks content, and that such content is pretty much mandatory to do well at endgame is revealed to most players pretty early, the vast majority of whom I expect to simply quit at that point.

Anybody with both the willingness and ability to pay that kind of money would just be paying for a professionally created and maintained MMO anyway (Like WoW or EVE)

Edit: Wow, I typed my thoughts on a whole different and better MMO.

I remembered playing this in closed beta, so maybe they have fixed all the issues that I had with this game. This is pretty much a WoW clone in a lot of ways, except that there were many annoyances. For one, you should be able to purchase and keep your mounts. Your mounts shouldn't cost ridiculous amounts of money just for an hour use. I only reached the first instance, but in an appropriate level group with fairly intelligent players, the first instance should not take 4 hours to complete and even at that, we found out we couldn't complete it because we couldn't pull the final boss without pulling everything in the room.

Also, why is there no autorun key? Which developer decided we're going to copy WoW in every single possible way, but forget to add in conveniences.

I really don't have a problem with a pay-for-perks game, i mean when you hit that limit and it gets boring instead of wasting your money on the expansion you wouldn't have to and for those who want to they can, like xbox live, we pay money for new maps because the old ones were getting old or more campaign cause we want something new, what is the difference?

The pay-for-perks system being described here is more suggestive of hitting a hard cap on content accessable unless you are paying for various perks.

It wouldn't be like paying for new maps in an FPS, it would be like paying for guns and armour that are outright superior to the normal guns and armour.

Non pay-for-perks or pay-to-play mmo? You find me a good one of those, and I'll never play another mmo again. As for runes of magic, it does have one thing that WoW doesn't: Sub classes. Once you hit level ten (this takes maybe, MAYBE an hour and a half,) you have the option to start leveling up a second class. It's a really neat feature, and really well done, and not something seen in too many mmo's, from what I've played.

When I played, from what I understood, you level each of those classes separately. None of the skills mixed and you had to switch between classes much like you switch between specs in WoW. I remember reading about getting skills unique to the class combination you picked, but I never saw them. It seemed like leveling an alt, except without the hassle of logging back and forth between your main.
