    TL;DR
    Not signing into the passport that's associated with your gamertag for 3months will cause it to be closed and you wont be able to add MS points or sign up for Gold.
    Oh and the account cannot be re-associated with the gamertag so you lose your gamerscore, history DLC, XBLA games and marketplace video.
    Note: I'm not good with writing or speaking my thoughts/ideas, what i have written makes perfect sense to me but to you im not so sure. I apologise in advance.

    It sounds like love is an amazing feeling. I guess its like dinosaurs, they sound amazing but I'm never gonna see one.

          Oh this is just ****ing ridiculous. Seriously. I'm safe because I use MSN regularly, and that signs me in to my passport, but there is no reason to just kill off an account like that. Even my hotmail accounts that I don't use anymore, If I go and recover them, they still function. Sure, all my data is gone, but they function. There has to be a way they can get over this.
          Funny stuff goes in this area right?

              Superfreak I would have no idea, I own a PS3, I just saw this article and thought XBL'ers should know.

                  Read it over, and my brother had a gold account that he didn't use for over 6 months, due to him selling his 360. He recently bought a new one, and recovered his gamertag and added a whole new year to it. No deactivation whatsoever.

                      I've used a pre-existing account 2 or so years after making it, no problem.

                              Nope. He had no reason to and we never use those random Microsoft services.

                                  Something seems to be a little skewed about this. I've had the same live account since they started the whole thing up. I haven't exactly used it every day... hell, I've probably gone 6+ months without touching the thing, but I've never had a problem before.

                                  I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot the email/password or something connected to the account and were unable to change anything because they cannot get anything without knowing those critical pieces of information. While I sympathize with their predicament, I think this is just a scare tactic to try and help those that might be affected by this. I would prefer to see something on the issue from Microsoft instead of an disappointed customer.
