Some do.. some don't...
FPSes suck

Most FPSs are good. Some are mindless crap *cough*counterstrike*cough*, others are incredibly deep (natural selection), and some take difficulty to new heights (UT).
Why do FPSs do so well? Well, they're physically active, so to speak. Aiming a gun and shooting your friend in the head is the closest as you can come to a game of football.

My favorite FPS game...wow, that'd be a toughie. Ok, for sheer, mindless blasting-the-crap-outta-stuff fun, I'd have to go with UT2003. Awesome game, great graphics, killer, fast paced gameplay. If I want to slow it down a little and actually use a little (read:very little) strategy, I go with TFC. For lots of strategy and team combat, I play Socom II (yes, I know it's not technically a FPS, but shutup). But my favorite all time FPS (and possibly my favorite all time game) would have to be Half-Life.Comment

Man, you guys are retarded. Have you ever played Madden or sports games? I bet you haven't, and if you have, I bet you've never played it with a bunch of other people. Just because it is based on something you may not like doesn't mean it sucks. I don't play it much, but it really does seem like a lot of people have a lot of fun playing it. And whoever said if you play sports games you aren't a gamer is an elitist idiot.
However, back on track, I like first person shooteres(sic) a lot, but there are a lot of other things that are fun too. I try not to limit myself too much, but I just find that I get the most enjoyment from FPSs.Comment

if you want a blast 'em up, mindless shooter anti go with serious sam gold...it doesnt get any better than that...strategy wise GR co-op is probably my favorite...you can get a few guys together and totally dominate, but still in a realistic wayOriginally posted by VxDxStick it in her butt and pee.Comment

I like Football. I dislike football games. I have played them with lots of people before. It was still not very fun.Originally posted by VxDxMan, you guys are retarded. I can therefore say I dislike football games.
I can say the same of every other sporting game I've ever really played. There are an occasional fun basketball game that is super unrealistic, and some nice racing games (pretty much the GT series only, though), but the vast majority of sporting games DO suck, and they never offer much of a substantial improvement over the previous year's title.SIG PICTURES:

Sports Games and FPS's are fun with groups of people. But when you play by yourself, they get old fairly fast. I mean, you dont see too many LAN parties that revolve around RPGs (mainly due to the fact that they are for the most part a One person Game...well, save MMORPGs...but only losers play games like that.)Comment

agreed, but when sports and FPS's have mutliplayer support things get a lot more intersetingOriginally posted by VxDxStick it in her butt and pee.Comment

Just because you suck at them doesnt make them suck.

That's a stupid thing to say. Most people don't find enjoyment in things they aren't good at.Originally posted by FeuergeistJust because you suck at them doesnt make them suck.
I could say that English as a class doesn't suck, you just suck at it. I happen to love the language and making fun ot the stories we have to read (aka analyzing them).SIG PICTURES:

just so you all know, a real gamer doesn't care what game it is. So i doubt people when they say "i'm a gamer" but yet hate certain games.
Gamers will play anything if challenged to retain their honor, even if they personally don't care for it. At least all the REAL gamers I've seen. I didn't like Call of Duty, but I had to play it for a local lan event since we hosed them in WC3 and they picked that as a rematch. FYI, we took them down in CoD too.
I don't prefer sports games--my best games are FPS and RTS--but I don't mind playing madden football or NBA jam on occasion. They are a fun break from the norm.
Shit, i remember having Virtual Tennis tournaments on the dreamcast and then super puzzle fighter. And then after that we played counter-strike.
