    Favorite type of RPG?

    What's everyone's favorite style of RPG?

    Examples:

    Turn-Based: Xenosaga, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, FFX (Option), Phantasy Star (1-4)...
    Real-Time: Kingdom Hearts, Morrowind, .hack, Phantasy Star Online, Diablo...
    Hybrid: Any Final Fantasy with "Active Battle Mode", Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic...
    Text: Dungeons and Dragons...
    MMORPG: Star Wars Galaxies, Everquest, Earth & Beyond...
    Tactics: FFT, Disgaea, Shining Force...

    Feel free to correct me on the classification or add any to the genres...but please have proof of the classification if you are doing so, this way it won't be questioned.

              The correct description of "tactics" as you have it, is simply "strategy RPG". It falls under that catagory.

              And that is my favorite. Disgaea is sweet. Final Fantasy Tactics sucked a good 400 hours of my life away. I wrote a class guide to Tactics Ogre: The Knight of Lodis. I could go on.

              I'm an addict. ;_;

                Turn based I suppose... but with extra stuff, like pressing "A" when you hit the enemy for extra damage. (SMRPG)

                          No...FFX-2 has "Active Battle Mode" as it's system of fighting..."Active" is different than turn based, but isn't counted as Real-time either...that's what would be called a "Hybrid".

                          Explanation:

                          In turn-based, you can walk away from the game for a long perios of time and still come back to the same battle with your people having about the same amount of health, depending on if the enemies had their turn when you walked away. Battle pauses in between turns.

                          In real-time, you have to pause the game before you leave in order for you to still be able to win, if the game is pausable, or you would have to find a save point so you can save and quit the game. Battle mostly isn't pausable.

                          In a hybrid, battles are fought in a "semi-real-time, semi-turn-based" way. FFX-2 is a hybrid because you don't actually take "turns" like a turn-based rpg, but the battle isn't completely "real-time" since the battle pauses whenever someone is changing and whatnot. Example: Yuna is changing from Gunner to Warrior. While she is changing, The other members of your party and the enemies are "frozen in time" instead of charging around attacking each-other or attacking Yuna while she is changing, which would be the most intelligent thing to do.
