    God of War II

So, I got the new God of War game.

It was absolutely awesome. Except for the fact that it took me under 10 hours to beat it. If you loved the first one, I highly recommend getting this one.

4 hours and you're only at the Temple of Fate? I think you're going slightly slow.

          Re: God of War II

I just finished it. I think I logged 12 hours in the main game and with the added bonus weapon, I'm two and a half hours in and around halfway done with the game. It also helps to know where everything is ahead of time.

Really good game. Worth the fifty three I dropped on it for the collectors two disc addition.

I'm planning on picking it up shortly. Thinking about getting the collectors addition but I don't even know what the second disc is =\

            Worth the moola?

Totally. I'm just renting it right now, but it's so much fun.

Just one question, remember those rotating knife column-thing you had to climb in the Hades of the first game? Is there any of that sh*t in the sequel?

                  Yeah, but ten hours?

I put 14 on Star Ocean III on my first day and I'm maybe a third of the way through the first disc. I've now clocked 25 hours on Tales of the Abyss and I doubt I'm much further than halfway through.

Why is it that developers these days are going the route of modern movies: good, but way, way too short.

I was considering getting this game since I just bought a PS2, but if it's only going to last me for 10 hours, I'll pass until it's maybe $10.

Ugh. Reminds me of when I co-bought Fable with a friend. We beat it the day we got it in about 7 hours. It was fun, but again, way too short.

                    Re: God of War II

Adventure games have been ~10 hours long for quite some time now.

But anyway, that's just for the story mode on Normal difficulty. I think Normal's pretty damn hard at times, and you have to unlock Titan difficulty. This game will last you MUCH longer than ten hours if you want to unlock the cool stuff.

@Jewp: never played the first one.

                      Re: God of War II

Unless you're unlocking more gameplay that's significantly different from the first time through, I'm not interested.

It's a shame that you're right about that. Devil May Cry games seem to last 5-20 hours on a single run. Shadow of the Colossus is maybe 10 hours. Fable was 7 for me.

I don't see why it's so hard for these developers to just make the storyline a little longer. I really don't like paying $50 for a game that'll last me 10 hours, then playing the SAME THING AGAIN a second time through with just minor changes. Especially because the second time through, you already know what's going to happen!

This was also why I disliked Tony Hawk games until THPS4 came out, because the entire concept was "Beat the game!" then "Beat the game on another character! We won't change anything though." And they want you to do this sixteen times!

Which is why I really like the Dark Alliance / Champions of Norrath series. Even though they do a similar Easy / Medium / Hard thing, the trick is that you only get Medium once you beat Easy and you import your character that you had the first time into the new game. In Champions, the dungeon maps are totally randomized, so you'll never know exactly where to go on a second run even if you know what to do.

RPGs are different. The first run is basically a "Story" run. The second run is the "100%" run, if it's not a game like Chrono Cross that'll require at least three thanks to party member options. As I've gone through Tales of the Abyss, I've discovered that I have missed a heck of a lot. But that's OK, since the second time through would be boring just watching the story again on a harder difficulty.

Well, if you're not going to replay Titan mode, there is a deal sort of like the Danger Room in X-Men. Training scenarios that you get graded on. The better you do, the more stuff you unlock.

I'd say it'd last you a few hours at least to just complete them all.

                          But what do you unlock?

Looking at some websites, I see it's character models and costumes.

                          Worth it?

I'm probably being overly cynical, but I just hate spending $50 on something I could beat in a single day and something I'll probably never play again. Just like Red Steel.
