    The Elder Scrolls: Arena

So after someone showing me a wikipedia page for Elder Scrolls I and II the other day, I decided I would try and see if I could buy or download the original game somewhere. Turns out you can download the original, Arena, off the Bethesda website. I had to download and install a DOS emulator so it would would on an XP system, but it does work.

It's pretty tough. It's got one of those huge open free range environments like the rest of the Elder Scrolls games, but it's very difficult to explore because the game moves very slowly(it sort of 'clips' as you move if you know what I mean). It took me about 2-3 hours to get out of the starting dungeon because I had to figure out how to do things. I had to start over once because you get attacked by some overly superior enemy if you stay in the same place for too much game time. Even after I got out, I almost died trying to find an inn of some sort because things like goblins and rats wander around the town at night.

I think it's interesting. Kind of reminds me of classic EQ or Meridian 59..

Elder Scrolls series is awesome. Well, I've only played 3 and 4, but just those 2 keep me busy. I mean, those games are HUGE! I had played 3 for a year and a half and still haven't beaten the main storyline, I was too busy with side quests. And as for Oblivion, I haven't played as much, but you really have to love what they do with the graphics engine, I really gotta hand it to Bethesda.

I haven't played 3 or 4, although I have 3 in my room(not sure if it'll work on this computer). Yes, the worlds are enormous. I don't know how they were able to do something like that back in 1996, but they did. I understand a lot of people found it too difficult to play because it was so big, along with generic NPC conversation or something like that.
