Re: MapleStory
My worst exp rates were still 8-9%. I never went too far below 10% an hour. But seriously, TRY FLYEYES. I got about 5% an hour at them with my 91 mage an his slow ass explosion. Also, you get TONS OF WINGS and lots of lower level drops you can NPC (and some worthwhile things, like KFans). The fact that you can stay on one spot (the little ledge on the far right) and continuously hit them makes them pretty damn good. Just try it.
But uh, Afro explained it pretty well, but let's make it more math-y looking for everybody.
Let's say something hits you for 1k damage and you have 990hp.
990hp + ~22 defense (hard to get with scrolling) = you take 989 damage and survive with 1hp.
990hp + 85hp (100%'d pig headband) = you take 1k damage but survive with 75hp.
Here it'd be dumb to scroll for def because it's simply easier (by far) to get hp and it does what it needs to do.
Now let's say you take 1k damage but have 1500hp. You have passed 7 60%s for hp and for defense on two separate helmets (14wdef/14mdef on one and 70hp on the other). Now let's look:
HP scrolled hat: You still take 1k damage. You survive just fine, ending up with 570 hp after each hit.
Defense scrolled hat: You take about 993 damage. You survive just fine, with 507 hp after each hit.
Now let's say you get hit once every 15 seconds, or 4 times a minute. You train for a few hours, or 180 minutes. Thus, you get hit 720 times.
With the HP scrolled hat: You take 1k * 720 = 720,000 damage after a few hours.
With the def scrolled hat: You take 993 * 720 = 714,960 damage after a few hours.
After a few hours, you've taken 5,040 less damage because of that defense. While the HP hat will help keep you alive easier than a defense hat would, that defense hat saves you about 5k worth of pots every few hours. Afro isn't saying that this small savings is a big deal, he's just saying that saving SOME money is better than not saving any money at all. Also, if something is hitting you for 1k and you have 1500 hp, you'd need to get 501hp from equips in order to be able to take 2 hits without dying. Most HP an archer can get from equips (10%'d overall and hat) would be 280. With HB that'd be 392. You just can't get 501hp easily. If you're only ~50hp away from taking an extra hit, THEN scroll for HP.
That's all Afro was saying. Besides, if you're at flyeyes or pixies the extra defense will lower their damage enough to make a huge difference, since they aren't doing 1k+ to you, so a few points difference is a bigger deal. Also, if you're gonna scroll something for HP, just 100% a pig ribbon headband. +85hp with 100%s on it, as opposed to +70% on a perfectly 60%'d ANYTHING ELSE. Sure, it won't have any stat boosts on it, but staying alive is worth some extra damage, IMO.
