They didn't put a save before that phantom boss on the way to archades that is brutally hard (in the last 25% of his HP). I was like, ok phew this guy is a piece of cake! And then when he's low on hp he's like
'LOL now I turn into 4 different guys that attack you all at once! Oh wait, I also immobolize you, cast doom on everyone, confuse everyone, and continuously hit everyone for massive amounts of damage!'
I died right before he was dead too, he had maybe 5000 hp left ;-;
I really don't want to play through that damn dungeon again to try to win again, either. =/ I could definitely win if there was actually a SAVE somewhere near him. damn you square. WHY would you not put a save before a boss? Just to piss everyone off?
...urg XD
ps 26 hours, level 37 (was 38 but alas I lost all of that exp and stuff I gained )
Reach, you're now where I am. That boss has made me quit. I played for a bit today, just went and leveled, got a few Quickenings. But to play through that entire dungeon again. I went in, killed all the super mandragoras, walked out, got the reward, saved, and haven't played since. I've tried that boss about four times now and ya, he's a dick.
Awesome so far. Really don't like the fact that I am attacking chocobos right now, I worked pretty damn hard to get a black chocobo in FFVII and now I'm mashing the hell out of it with an axe. Actually, awesome =)
Anyways, I've hit alot of the ending quickenings, I think I've hit 3 so far, considering I have most of my characters with two quickenings.
Belias comes in handy especially when doing harder hunts earlier on, but right now I'm at level 21 with about 19 hours done. I'm somewhere in the Ozmos plains or something.
I'm looking foward to another 6+ hours of game play, maybe I'll get stuck at the Wyrm and just shut it off there. Heh, who knows.
It might be helpful if I knew how to use quickenings. I have 3 for everyone(well, the 3 people I use)...I only like the fact it triples your MP ;p, I should learn how to use them.
I guess i'll try the boss again later with some more tactics in mind. Like, he'll fall fast, my superhammer thing can deal like 2000+ damage on him. The problem is actually hitting the son of a biatch, so it might be better off ignoring poison and status effects other than confuse/blind and just keep hacking away at him.
I leveled up to like level 41 and it didn't help AT ALL. Actually, I did worse even after casting slow on him.
He's just impossible once he uses divide. impossible. Absolutely impossible. He just swarms you and knocks your whole party out.
If he couldn't teleport, the battle would be vastly different, because I could take him out easily and quickly. But you can't hit the ****er because he's always moving, and then once you're surrounded he wipes you the **** out.
Gonna try one more time =/ The only thing I can think of at this point is running from him after he uses divide and healing that way, but it's really hard because I'll have to dodge his confuse attacks.
I guess I'll also have to head (all the way =/) back to that village and see if they happen to have any armor that can prevent confuse, because it would probably make the battle winnable with that alone.
The biggest problem is me killing myself. My attack does so much damage my own characters wipe me out almost instantly when confused rofl
Reach, the "mist" thing in your menu, click it and those are quickenings. They are essentially limit breaks, but you can chain them from character to character. Try it on some regular enemies first so you get the hang of it, just beware it completely drains your MP.
Somehow I got my quickening to do 25000 damage o___o
On a side note, finally at level 44 I ruined the boss. I think not hasting myself was my biggest problem and letting him swarm me. THis time I made sure I had haste on before teh battle and neglected curing while taking out his duplicates. It looks like you're going to die, but once his dupes are dead he's powerless and you can just kick the **** out of him.
Also, hammers are good ****. I can do like 4000 damage sometimes. The downside being sometimes it can hit for 1 damage but hey, that's a price I pay for such power ;o
Ok, since people seem confused about mist charges and quickenings, I'll just include some info about them.. MP:
- Your MP, stands for mist points, not magic points for once.
- A full bar of MP is considered (1) mist charge Quickenings: - I believe there are a total of 18 quickenings scattered around the liscence board, most are found in corners.
- All Quickening spots on the Liscence board only appear once, after you unlock one, that space will not be available for others to use.
For example:
If you get Vaan's first quickening and its on the top right part of the liscence board, and you look at Balthier's liscence board and try to get the quickening where Vaan got his, it will not appear. The total number of quickenings equal out to 3 quickenings for all 6 characters, so map out your quickenings so you don't end up with 3 quickenings for all but one character, and you have to tear through the board to 3 different corners to obtain all three quickenings. MP and Quickenings: Very Simple. Lets say Vaan's MP is at 60 and you unlock his first quickening, it would look something like this: (Considering you have full MP)
60/60 (One full mist charge)
Lets say you get his second quickening later on, and his MP is now 80.
It would now look like this:
160/80 (Two full mist charges)
Again, lets say the third is when his MP is 99
198/99 (Three full mist charges)
Basically, unlocking the second quickening will double your MP, and the third triple it. You should have seperate charge bars for them too.
How to use quickenings:
During a battle, you will see the command, "Mist" appear on your battle menu, by clicking on Mist, it will bring you to a small command box, which will have quickening. Click quickening, will bring up another command box, which will give you a list of the quickenings you have available for that character. If the name of the quickening is highlighted in white, it is available, if in grey, it is not available either because you have some status magic like confuse on you, or because you simply do not have a full mist charge.
Thats how your screen will look while performing one.
During a quickening: - Like shown above, there is a time bar, which is 4 seconds, that allows you to perform as many quickenings as you can within the 4 seconds.
- The place where your characters names and quickenings appear is the most important thing to look at. See, after using a quickening, let's say a level 1 quickening, and that is your only quickening, you have just used a mist charge, so your character's MP is now at 0. Hitting the R2 button will essentially cause a "slot like action" where the list will change and you may have an action that says "Mist charge" appear in white. This is how it works:
Lets say you have Vaan, Balthier and Fran in your party, and you have all of their level 1 quickenings unlocked. You go into battle, and use Vaan's level 1 quickening. While he is preforming it;
The screen could look something like this ButtonC. NameQ NameLevel
(Triangle) Vaan (Mist Charge) O (Square) Balthier (Quickening Name) OO (Bold being not available)
(x) Fran (Quickening Name) O -------------------------------------------------------- (Time)
If that is the case, you either have the choice of
A) Recharging Vaan's Mist Bar, so that the next slot he could possibly have the quickening available again.
B) Using Fran's quickening, which while she is performing it, another screen like this will pop up.
C) Hitting R2 again and hoping for a different "slot" of quickenings
D) Letting the time bar expire
Notes:
- You can hit R2 as many times to mix the "slots" up within the time limit
- "Mist Charge" is simply a charge, it does not mean it is a quickening
- There is no certain order for things to pop up, I believe it is random, but pay attention to which quickenings you have used. If you used a level three quickening, and expect to use another quickening for that character again, you will not be able to until "Mist Charge" appears for that character.
Final Sequences: After your time expires, you may have noticed sometimes you get another attack, lets call it a finishing attack. Finishing attacks do not appear randomly, they occur due to what types of level quickenings you use. Here is the list of them:
Inferno - Using three level 1 quickenings
Cataclysm- Using seven level 1 quickenings
Torrent- Using two level 1 quickenings AND three level 2 quickenings
Windburst- Using five level 2 quickenings
Luminescence- Using five level 3 quickenings
Ark Blast- Using two quickenings of levels 1, 2 and 3
Whiteout- Using three quickenings of levels 1, 2 and 3
Black Hole- Using four quickenings of levels 1, 2 and 3
The power of the quickenings is in descending order on that list, Black Hole is extremely difficult and when I finally got it my damage ended up being about 55,000.
That's basically it, other than mentioning that final attacks are non-elemental, using Inferno on a Flan will not double the damage because Flan's are weak against fire.
Only thing I'm not quite sure about is if the damage with each quickening goes up as a character's strength goes up as well. If someone knows, please post it lol. Hope this clears up things a little =)
